Hi Shiajolie,
I also adopted a kitty from the rescue I worked at. She was considered a "special Needs" lit because of her Stomatitis. The only sure cure for this debilitating disease if to have all of the cats teeth and roots removed.
My cat had this surgery three days after I had adopted her. I knew she would be in terrible pain unless I did this. She has been pain free ever since, and I have had her for 8 years---she is 10 years old now.
Sorry but the only other alternative to help with the pain would be steroids and that will dull the pain , but also cause a strain on her liver and kidneys.
She is spraying mucus from her nose because this is part of the Herpes Syndrome. It usually goes hand and hand with Stomatitis. She will have
colds off and on , but when there is yellow discharge she needs to see the vet for an antibiotic. Not one you have one the vet needs to prescribe. The yellow mucus means her viral respiratory disease has not turned bacterial and infection has set in. This needs antibiotics now. She is in a lot of pain ,between the teeth and the sinus infection---she would like to remove her entire head , it hurts so bad. Please see a vet, you have a special needs kitty that will need med help in controlling this condition and the pain that goes along with it.
Please let me know how things work out , I understand this condition very well.
CML
can you help me then? i took a cat from a rescue and she is has been to the vet and one said stress related ulcers and the other stomatitis in the mouth. she keeps getting cold sores in her mouth and spraying mucus from her nose she weighs 7 lbs i have the same meds here but have no idea how to break it down to give to her. please help thanks
Please do not fool with meds and dosages.....the wrong guess and your kitty will die. She really needs to see a Vet ASAP...you do know how painful bad teeth can be.....praying for her
My cat is 17 yrs old she has been to the vet only once to get spayed. She did not do well with anesthesia and lost her "meow" after that. She is old and losing her teeth but she can eat canned food. She has a bad tooth that has her mouth swollen. Can I give her clindamycin and tramadol? How many mg per kg?

Fluoxetine is NOT an antibiotic but an antidepressant and should not be given to animals, MM, MD.
I thought peroxide was safe for animals and have found out it is not. Please do some research on peroxide before using it on your cat.
that' s the same thing as clavimox that they give to cats and dogs every day.
I just wanted to thank you for your suggestions on how much medication to give a cat. My cat had a sinus infection. Coincidentally, my son was also being treated for a sinus infection. I divided up the powder from a 500 mg capsule, shooting for 20 mg doses. My cat is 17 pounds so, thanks to your suggestion of 1-2 mg per pound, I thought that was a good dosage. He was quite a bit better the next day, but I gave it to him for five days. It's been another five days and he's had no more symptoms.
I just wanted to tell everyone that my cat is happy and healthy, now! His nose has completely stopped running. I took the powder out of a 500mg capsule of Ampicillin (coincidentally, my son was being treated for a sinus infection, too) and divided it into five parts. Then, I took one part and divided it into five parts. That gave me doses of about 20 mg. My cat is 17 pounds. I found that the best way to give it to him was to add it to a tiny amount of whole milk. He took it much, much easier than the antibiotics the vet used to give him, when he had some episodes of UTIs. It wasn't 100% accurate, but neither is trying to give a cat a dropper full of the liquid the vets give.
absolutely,A stray came around my house and was limping with a huge infection on the leg from fighting and I gave the cat some antibiotics I had for a tooth abcess.Cleared it up in 5 days! Give a little from the capsule twice a day, very little. Each human capsule should last 2 days with a cat. google the antibiotics you have and put it in like this. CLindimycin for cats.see if there are any sites of vets who use your particular meds
I appreciate your concern, but I know arithmetic and how to measure things, and I know what the usual dose is that vets prescribe. I took the powder out of a capsule, which I knew the strength of.
I've had as many as nine cats at a time, almost all rescues that I couldn't find another home for. Most were tiny kittens who had been abandoned somewhere, where they would have starved or been hit by cars. The one who is currently half on my lap, half on my computer, purring loudly, was found in a McDonald's parking lot, about 8 weeks old, half starved and scared half to death. Rather than take them to the only shelter here, knowing they would most likely be euthanized, I keep them and do the best I can. If I can't treat a problem, myself, I take them to the vet.
I wanted to share what finally worked, with my cat. The first night that I put some of the powder in his mouth and washed it down with water, he did fine, but the second time, it made him froth at the mouth (which I felt terrible about). So, I decided to try some whole milk with it, hoping that the fat globules would surround the anti-biotic granules and make them go down without irritating anything. I divided up the powder and put a teaspoon of milk with part of it. Then, I figured how many ccs would provide about 20mg and gave him that dose twice a day. I keep in in the fridge, so the milk won't spoil. It worked like a charm! I'm still dosing him, to make sure it's under control, but his nose hasn't even run in two days.
Besides not having money for a vet, this particular cat gets SO stressed by it that I really avoid it. I've had dozens of cats over the past 60 years and can only think of one other who freaked out over being taken anywhere as this one.
How. Exactly will you err on side of caution? Do you realize how small a dose an average 10 lb cat would need in relation to the weight of the human it was prescribed for? It's not very easy to correctly reduce down a tablet 10-15x's smaller, if you give to high a dose you endanger your kitty too small a dose and you run the risk of not killing the bacteria thus creating a more resistant strain
I don't have the money to pay a vet right now and thought I would try to keep it from getting worse until next week. I'll be sure to err on the side of giving him too little. If it isn't better by the first of the month, I take him to the vet to get more amoxicillin.
Please, don't take it upon yourself to give your cat amoxicillin. Take your cat to the vet. You could do your cat serious harm and possibly kill him if you get this wrong.
I have a 13 YO cat who has had a runny nose for quite some time. He's eaten fine and slept and his activity level has been the same, so I haven't worried about it. The mucus used to be thin and clear, but it has recently thickened and turned greenish. I am going to start giving him amoxicillin tonight, but I wanted to share another thing I found that works, to clear out his nose. I had a small baby-sized nasal syringe and thought it wouldn't work to try. He didn't like it, of course, but it worked surprisingly well! I got enough mucus out that he could breath again, for several hours.
I would get some antibiotics in the cat right away.
If it was me whatever I had because it sounds
like the cat is in very bad condition.
He may have an infected tooth which is causing it and
in that case you would probably have to have the tooth out.
Hey there !

Hello all,
There is a stray cat that always comes around. I find it at my door when its hungry. I always give it something to eat so it always comes.
I noticed 2 days ago it took a long time to eat, so i noticed it had missing teeth in the lower jaw and one of its fangs was broken or a half.
Today i noticed one of the sides was swollen and there was a black substance coming out of the other side.
I did my research online this seems to be a gum infection and/or abscess of the tooth and very painful for the cat.
I've never grabbed this cat, nor will it let me take it somewhere, it moves tries to escape doesn't like to be grabbed.
Please tell me if there is something i could take, any antibiotic or pain killer or anti inflammation, anything. Unfortunately i have not much knowledge of medicine.
I would like to help the poor thing, breaks my heart see it in pain its such an adorable lovely cat.
Any answer would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Anna
My cat has an infection from a bite to his face. He weighs 9lbs. and is 11yrs. old. Can I give him amoxicillin? How much and how often? I cleaned the wound w/ peroxide and applied neosporin.
NOOOOOOO Fluoxetine isn't even an antibiotic its an antidepressant...this can be very dangerous for kitty..
what is wrong with your cat???
can i give my cat fluoxetine antibiotic
We just had all 3 of our cats get upper respiratory inf.s and one ended up w/pneumonia-if you notice any kits coughing-take them to vet IMMEDIATELY!! i didn't know coughing is notnormal for cats-i thought he just had phlegm running down the back of his throat and we almost lost him. that said-mine all had stuffy noses too and i tried everything: putting vicks on their chins so the vapors would drift to the nost but not be where it could be eaten-NOT appreciated. anyway, long story short, my concern was getting my cats to eat when they couldn't smell; w/my vets approval i found "low-sodium sardines in water" and these are particularly fragrant and this was the only thing i could get bob-the one w/pneumonia, to eat. just remember that this is a temporary emergency measure and shouldn't be a permanent substitute for a healthy cat diet. best of luck!!
ps-don't bother trying one of the little nose sucker thingies for babies. complete FAIL @ my house!!
