I have had Chloe for quite some time adopting her from the Portsmouth VA humane society in 2006 and after living with a pet for long you become aware of the leavings in the little box. It seems I'm going from one extreme to the next. Susie my DSH had been misdiagnosed with megacolon, which had actually turned out to be colon cancer...she was leaving larger than normal poops in the box which for years we thought was the other cat, however, now being more aware I have noticed that Chloe has been leaving bunny pellets.
After dealing with Sue and cisapride and lactulose 2 meds that I really don't want to deal with again I am trying to prevent this from getting worse in Chloe.
Chloe has been on Hill's presciption diet R/D for awhile and she has dropped some weight just not as much I like for being on this food for the past 6 months. Becuase she will not get along with the other cat in the house, Trinket, I have Chloe contained to the Master Bedroom. I try to take her out of the room every once in awhile but as soon as I put her down she's made beeline straight back to the room. I know excercise is good for helping to alleviate this problem but she has her spurts.
When Chloe does go to the restroom, I have noticed her straining and grunting and since she was going to the Doc for a panty shave I had her checked out. Urine was taken, b/c I thought she maybe becoming diabetic since she was drinking water like it was going out of style. Her results came back negative and Miralax was suggested, so that goes in her waterbowl without question now. But she's still straining and I am worried about the long term effects on using this medication. Her poops have become bigger since being on the Hills R/D but I am thinking of removing the Miralax and replacing it with Lax-eze http://www.allergicpet.com/products/anti-constipation.html
Water intake does not seem to be the problem here its something else her blood panels are good too.
Thanks for your thoughts on the matter.
