wow... I wouldn't have ever thought to get my own samples!! I would have monitored then taken to the vet! See these are things to learn. I'm glad to here your cats are doing well!! hopefully it was only an isolated event and the others not having issues!!
No need for apologies I enjoy stories and learning about new things!
It was my Nemo, he has recurrent FLUTD problems...struvite crystals..he's been on a homemade diet (cooked) for 6 months now and got the PH all under control, all was going well until Sunday when I found urine on the floor when I wiped it up with a papertowel I noticed a pinkish tinge to the urine....uggg blood!
Did alot of research on Sunday, called my Vet Monday a.m. got some beads for him to hopefully pee in so I could bring in a sample for a U/A...had to be fresh for a PH reading so I kept him isolated and had to peek in on him every 15 min. to see if he gave me the sample...................he WAS NOT co-operating.
During this time I'm also syringing him with extra fluids plus the stool softner he needs for his bowels Plus slippery elm bark to sooth his urinary tract....poor little guy!!
I let him out of isolation Monday at 6 b/c clinic was closed for the night and thus couldn't bring in a fresh sample ever if he HAD pee'd...of course as soon as I let him out he ran to his litter box!! little monkey.
So Tues I tried a difffernet method, I waited until I saw him head to his litter box, I had a sterile ladle ready and when he squatted I lifted him gently by the tail and caught enough urine to fill a vial and take to the clinic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
The best news is it came back CLEAR, no blood, no crystals and a fairly normal PH or 7.
Therefore it was an 'expected' isolated event
OR
Was it my other cat Sami that pee'd on the floor???
since Sami has no history of FLUTD, I will just monitor both of their behaviors. I'm also ordering my own PH strips to monitor that at home tooooooo. save alot of $$$ at the Vets unless its warranted!
So all is well here for the moment, just to get his bowels working well now and I'll relax..
sorry for the long story!

Thank you for the Heads up!!! she's been through enough and doesn't need diarrhea to add to the problems!
I'm glad to here yours is okay as well!! what did she go through? We all panic when something happens to the ones we love!
Hi Kd just a note of caution when changing foods, be sure to do the transition slowly, like 25% per day added to the old food and monitor from there, a quick change can cause diarrhea.
good luck and sooooo glad to here she is winning the battle, its such a scare when theres something wrong and they can't tell us what!!
Just went thru 3 days of that myself with one of mine, thankfully everything turned out ok there too....just mommy going into a panic mode...lol

so just an update my cat is now starting to eat!! and she is back to her normal self!!! she still seems a bit weak but seems to be doing better each day!! YAY
Thanks again !
thank you greatly I will read those sites and try a few things!! She doesn't seem to enjoy the soft food like the other cat and we went completely natural with the soft foods which helped her with her digestion but I think she could still do better!
Thank you to every one!!
HI Kd, welcome to our site!!............I've been reading about kitties problems and I'm so happy to see she is recovering..poor kitty has been through alot and you've done well to bring her back from the trauma and all the health problems after the fire.
I will give you 2 websites to read....
the first one Dr. Lisa talks all about cat and nutrition its an excellent read, however she promotes a RAW diet, I tried but mine wouldn't eat so I had to find another site(they do promote raw here too) where I could also find a COOKED diet, with the cooked it does get alot more complicated b/c of the need to add far more supplements than you would need to than if using raw and bones etc....
Do your reading and make your own decision.
the nutrition one is www.catinfo.org
the other with both raw and cooked diet is www.holisticat.com
good luck to you and kitty.

I just reread my post I need to slow down when I type, my spelling errors are horrible lol!!
HEHEHE good to hear, i saw that it was bleeped out so I didn't want anyone to take offense ;)
oh he learned his lesson, he didn't really know the extent of the house fire and how bad she was injured.... he has been cuddling her since it happened so I know he feels really bad. Any how, yesterday she only vomitted once and she wasn't eatting at all only drinking. I was goin to take her to the vet this morning but i wanted to try feeding her boiled chicken and had decided if she didn't eat it I would take her but if she did I would hold off another day. When I awoke this morning she was actually up and moving around meowing unlike the past two days so I boiled some chicken shredded it up and she ate some!!! YAY, the husband will be home all day watching her sooo I think that is what was wrong I think the smoke may have hurt her lungs or irritated something, she is slowing getting better so We'll hold off on the vent.
Its def. vomit, I'm glad its not urine! that would mean something more serious. I'm not ready to lose her yet!! I would miss her meow!
Thank you so much for your help and replies I'll keep you posted on her recovery!!
One more thing, someone provided me with a website on natural feedings... making cat food yourself. I did't save it do you know the website i'm speaking of. I think we're going to start feeding them that way.
LMAO.....LOVE it......JACKASSES!!!! Trust me, I doubt it bothers the regulars on here!!
I'm sorry, but I'd have to agree w/ you on your "description" of lighting up a cigar in the same home as your cat that was in a house fire AND has a heart condition. I'd have to put a stop to that!!! I'd probably threaten to do something to them WITH the lit cigar.
I agree w/ you about waiting to see how she does, IF it's vomit!
sorry about the bad words!! =( I wasn't really thinking when I typed it.
Clear liquid** excuse the spelling, typed a bit too fast!
thank you for the response, it turns out that she is not urinating she is throwing up clean liquid, it had a hit of blood.
Heres what happened according to my husband, he decided to smoke a cigar in the house (JACKASS) but he smoked it with her on his lap (BIGGER JACK ***!!!). I know to some that may not seem like a great deal... BUT my cat was in a house fire about 8 years ago, she almost died as the hair onth elining of her throat burned off, At least that is what I recall them saying. Any how we had to care for her day and night for weeks for her to recover, shes never been the same (mentally) Any how while she resided at my parents home she always had a reaction to my fathers smoke (All men are jackasses!)
So my husband said he smoked some of the cigar, got up and when he came back he found the liquid, he thought it urine because it was clean no solids.
My cat is at least 10 years old if not older, she is 8 lbs and according to the doctor she hasn't changed, she has a heart condition. I decided to hold off on taking her to the vet after hearing what happened I wanted to see if she would get any better as this was the first time this happened and there may have been a reason.
She got sick twice more last night and hasn't since 9 pm last night.
If the litter's clean, than it's not the reason that she's going outside the box.
OK, couple of more questions. How old is she? Has she been spayed? Did you get her blood work back? If so, what were the results? How is her weight? How is she acting?
OK, enough firing questions at ya for now!! LOL Sorry about all the questions, but we'll be able to help ya even more if we get these details.

Yes kitty needs to get a urinalysis done for sure. sticky urine particularly if it has a SWEET smell is an indication of diabetes.....and you did say she was drinking lots thats another indicator.....good luck♥
ps. welcome home Linda!!
thank you for the responses!! well she drinks a lot and she has never gone out of the litter box before recent, i did notice she was urinating a lot. I just spent 500 buck on her so I was hoping I wouldn't have to take her again =( all well have to do whats best for her.
Her liter box is always clean, We've experienced that once when we left the house for the entire day and found that they went out side of the box because we weren't there to clean it ha never again!!
Thanks, I hiope it is just a uti!
Hi this might be a UTI(bladder infection). These can cause incontinence issues. Also, the vet may miss this diagnosis if he didn't actually test the urine directly. If your cat hasn't been spayed yet, sometimes they will go outside the box. And, last but not least, your cat may be upset about something-stress in the house or dirty litter box.
Good luck and hope kitty gets better soon!
Not sure why her urine would be sticky unless she is dehydrated and the levels are very condensed. I think you need to have her urine checked by the Vet. That's the only way you can be sure of what you are dealing with.
