I had this exact problem this last summer after a 2-3 hour whale watching tour on a boat.  In anticipation of the trip, I took 2 dramamine tabs to "ward off" any problems with nausea.  However, NOTHING prepared me for the awful after affects of being on the boat.  I couldn't get my balance, felt nauseous, dizzy, brain-fog, and very irritable mood...a full night's sleep helped a little; however, I didn't feel back to my "chiari self" until a few days later.  I should note that, prior to my headaches starting, I used to go on boats quite frequently as we used to fish in the Great South Bay off of Long Island....never an issue.  I must conclude (from my experience only) that the Chiari becoming symptomatic changed the way my body deals with boat rides.  As for planes....I flew for the first time a few weeks ago, and I can honestly say, it wasn't as bad.  Oh yes, a few balance issues and running into doorways, but no where near the way I am after being on a boat!!

Hi...we r all different in how this will or will not affect us....I can only suggest earplanes an item to help equalize pressure....that may be the issue in the plane...not sure about the boat, but many  people get sea legs...and that could be ur issue chiari or not.

  Just a thought

Hello my friend !! I have been worried about you. I am so sorry to see that you are not feeling well, and that your trip landed you feeling worse. Did you try some dramamine? I had/have the same problem when I go on a boat for to long. I havent flown in a long time, so not sure about the flying. I know how yucky that feeling is, and I sure hope that you start to feel better soon. Love and hugs, and well wishes coming your way ~~

I have problems when I fly, but they're a little different. I used to get a sinus infection every time I flew. It would ruin the first few days of my trip and I never could convince a doc to send me with antibiotics. (This was fairly important since I flew internationally a lot and more than once ended up at a foreign doctor.) Later, I did some reseach and found that the pressure might be causing the problems. So I bought some Sudafed and took it right before the plane took off. As soon as I landed, I took a hot shower and another Sudafed. It actually worked. So it might be something about the pressure. I guess it doesn't explain the boat thing, though. My balance doesn't suffer as much from Chiari as some people's do but I do know a lot who have trouble with moving things like trains, escalators, etc.
