My child always walks with head against the wall when he is angry. Is this normal?

Dear Rene,

In retrospect, my advise might not be wise after all. I have just learned that in some countries, the conditional training approach with use of electrical devices seems to be an illegal practise. Please ignore my previous advice and i would suggest to consult a professional on local law and/or child behaviour.

Do Not use electric use any electric collar on a child,there is a reason why he is doing it,he is frustrated, have you been giving him a lot of Candy maybe he has formed a liking for it, its not a good idea to give them too much candy as its not good for teeth anyway,As a treat is okay.When he goes to walk to the wall distract him with a Game or a book, play  music ,anything to take his mind away from the Negative action,he is also seeking more attention, does he go to pre school as it could also be he misses you, does he do this outside and at other peoples houses. Try to figure the cause, meantime dont make a big deal of it ,just stop him quietly, nip it in the Bud before he does it and you will break the Pattern of behavior. No Padding and No electric torture!!

I have experienced similar problems in the past. I thought i was the only one with this problem, so i am happy to find a peer. Maybe i can help you with some advice that worked for me:
I used the following two-step approach:
1) I placed soft padding on most walls, about 2 inches thick. This prevented major bruising of the childs head
2) I found that conditional training worked well. For this i used an electric collar (similar to those used on hard-to-handle dogs). Via remote control i applied a small electric shock, everytime the child had a fit. Be sure to start at the lowest setting first, and adjust to a higher setting only when the child does not respond immidiately. After a few weeks the fits stopped.

The Child is 2 years old. Het walks to the wall and than he bangs his head against it. Prior to this behavior, he is most of the time upset because he does not get something, for instance sweets. He does not speak yet so I can not ask him why he does it.

How old is the child? what do you mean he walks into the wall and then bangs his head? If he is banging his head it would be best to stop the Behavior as it could do damage to him,what happens prior to this behavior is he upset at you, at siblings??Does he do it at school. It sounds as if he is upset and it is way od expressing it, ask him Why he doesit. See your Doc if he bangs hard.
