explosive personality?

I'm wondering if there is possibly something chemically wrong? with my 4 1/2 yr old son. From birth he has been challenging as a baby I wouldn't have classified him as colicky but there was something definatley wrong. His first year was HELL and we have just been managing him ever since. Every once in while we have really good days with him which are so noticeable, he is calm and nice, then we have on/off difficult days, and then we have explosive days where it seems that all I do is mange him. He is explosive in his emotions, he can be very mean to his other 3 siblings and it is all I can do to keep my cool with him. It is not a lack of dicipline as I have 3 other young children and there is just no comparison it is always about managing Matthew, i never can predict what kind of a day I'm going to have or what is going to set him off. Example...he got up yesterday morning and his 6 yr old sister said good morning to him and he lost it..screaming at her not to say good morning to him etc. then he grabbed a loaf of bread off the counter and chucked it at the wall, turned the tv way up and sat there drinking his milk and after about 5 minutes he talked to us like nothing was wrong. It just leaves my head spinning!! Just wondering if there are any tests he should have? On a good day you would never know as he is such a sweet loving boy..I just wish I could get some answers.

He may just be very sensitive and very stressed out over something.  Maybe just even having 3 siblings is stressing him out.  Are you sure that is all that happend - his sister just said good morning?  Maybe she was teasing him?  He may just be highly sensitive to things and needs a lot of down time..

It might be wise to try and post this question on the Ask A Doctor section of this forum.  I think there might be something "chemically" at error here as your son's impulsiveness seems to be affecting his life as well as those around him.

Can you write down if anything or anyone triggers his temper, mornings can be a hard one for a lot of kids if they are rushing to get out of the door to school, maybe take longer so he has plenty of time and watch his interaction with the others to see if it is all him .How do they behave towards him . How is he at school is it the same and when he goes visiting him or just at your House, you"ll get the answer I bet, and ask him. Why
