Colo. mom starts petition to arm teachers with Tasers

SEDALIA, Colo. –  In the wake of last week’s school shooting in Connecticut, one Colorado mom is hoping to encourage school districts to allow teachers to carry Tasers in an effort to protect students and themselves.

Jenni Parks, a mother of four, has started an online petition that would encourage lawmakers to require teachers to have stun guns in each classroom.

“We The People would like to Petition the State of Colorado to make Tasers a requirement for all teaching staff and that there be one secured fire arm available in case of emergency,” said Parks in her online campaign.

The idea, which will likely stun most people, is not one expected to be taken up by lawmakers anytime soon.

“I think the chance of a teacher accidentally discharging a Taser is much smaller than someone having to burying twenty children,” added Parks.

Denver Public Schools allowed media to observe their state of the art command center that allows officials to monitor surveillance cameras, radios, and all aspects of student safety.

Parents dropping off their children at school Monday morning told FOX31 Denver crews the shooting left their sense of safety shattered.

“I felt very scared, it took me about 45 minutes to leave the school this morning,” said one parent dropping off a child Monday morning.

They can't budget for teachers.  They can't budget anything in regards to education.  I guess they could do what the government normally does and steal the money from social security and pay someone to stand guard.

Ok enough jokes, I don't think the taser's are a good idea, I do however think a trained security guard on site is, I mean this is our children surely there is a way to budget this in

NO, tasers have proven to cause great harm and even death when used by cops ! And they're supposed to be trained in how to use them.
This is a horrible, horrible idea.

I agree with Teko, no more weapons.
Protect our kids by getting rid of these weapons of mass destruction !

Well we can always put bars on the windows of the school and make them prisoners in their own environment. (Oh wait, they already are like fish in a fishbowl) so that might make us feel better. Or, why dont we just send the kids to school packing heat!  This infuriates me like I cannot even describe. Never before have we had to have these conversations in our country. So why now? What is different now? How many freedoms do we lose before we say enuff is enuff. Lose the assault weapons, quit making ammo for em, make it easy to get healthcare for the mentally ill or disturbed, enforce the laws on the books and start holding people accountable for their actions. This IS America! Kids are dying in the schools, being sexually molested by adults, abused by adults. Geeze, I think its time to open our eyes and do something about all of this mess instead of bringing out more weapons to fight other weapons.
