Colo. mom starts petition to arm teachers with Tasers

SEDALIA, Colo. –  In the wake of last week’s school shooting in Connecticut, one Colorado mom is hoping to encourage school districts to allow teachers to carry Tasers in an effort to protect students and themselves.

Jenni Parks, a mother of four, has started an online petition that would encourage lawmakers to require teachers to have stun guns in each classroom.

“We The People would like to Petition the State of Colorado to make Tasers a requirement for all teaching staff and that there be one secured fire arm available in case of emergency,” said Parks in her online campaign.

The idea, which will likely stun most people, is not one expected to be taken up by lawmakers anytime soon.

“I think the chance of a teacher accidentally discharging a Taser is much smaller than someone having to burying twenty children,” added Parks.

Denver Public Schools allowed media to observe their state of the art command center that allows officials to monitor surveillance cameras, radios, and all aspects of student safety.

Parents dropping off their children at school Monday morning told FOX31 Denver crews the shooting left their sense of safety shattered.

“I felt very scared, it took me about 45 minutes to leave the school this morning,” said one parent dropping off a child Monday morning.

As 12/21/2012 gets closer don't you think it's odd that the more liberal people on here and myself seem to be in more agreement over certain things?

End of days???? LOL

"Think a taser is a false sense of security. You don't bring a taser to a gun fight. A fire arm in school is a very different issue.

I agree....

I can go with that. I wanted to get a taser for myself and for my daughter but they are illegal here. So instead I take my big dogs around with me (no one knows by looking what sweethearts they really are though they would undoubtedly protect me if necessary.)

Well, I think it would be hard for a teacher to get close enough to use the taser on a person holding a gun shooting but it is 'something'.

Less scary to me to have in a school than a gun and the issue with a gun at school is that some would have a hard time pulling the trigger.  Adrenline would have to be pumping and someone might freeze.

I think pepper spray is pretty effective.  I'd have no problem spraying that.  Hard to get right up and do it to someone though if they have a gun and are shooting.

Ugh.  Luckily school shootings like this are rare so far.

Think a taser is a false sense of security. You don't bring a taser to a gun fight.

A fire arm in school is a very different issue and I think you either employee a off duty police office, highly trained security guard or maybe even an ex-military memeber i think a fire arm in the school is very tough to agree with.

So you get a teacher who goes through the qualifications and what not. Something happenes and he needs the gun. How much precaution is he/she going to take when firing the gun? Someone who does/did it for a living knows the stress that you can be under in having to take a life or when to even fire so no one else is hurt.

I've got no problem with tasers.  Someone will when their "little darling" gets tasered.  And then there will eventually be a death and the argument will be somewhere around, "this could have all been avoided if tasers were not introduced into our schools."

Having had the opportunity to "ride the lightning" (being tasered) I think it is a very effective tool and all law enforcement should be required to carry them.  I offered my body up to science on this opportunity.... not so sure I will do it again.  Its effective.
