Red Rash Around Nose

Not sure if this is a continued post from the one I was just reading by johnnyzhouse, http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/242996  ;

I was wondering if johnnyzhouse ever found a treatment for the problem they were having?  I have the exact same problem and it started for me when I was also 15. I put one of those perfume samples on my face, the ones you get from the magazines, and it caused my face to break out in this terrible raw rash. I know it wasn't the smartest thing to do and I have suffered for the next 25 years cause of it. The rash on my face did eventually go away, except for around my nose.

It's red with tinny little pin head like bumps which sometimes has white stuff in them like a pimple. Or the skin is just red and raw looking and constantly flakes. It right around the underneath edges of my nose sometimes partly coming out from inside my nose. I feel it tingle at times, but I try to never touch it.

I have been dealing with this for 25 years and no ointment in the world works. I've tried every gimmick there is out there, even diet change. I've been to many doctors and specialists and nobody has had any miracle ointments that works. They may work for a short period of time, but I end up becoming immune to them and they stop working just like johnnyzhouse said. The only thing that gives me relieve is a treatment of oral antibiotics. This will sometimes make the rash go away for maybe a few years. But over the years I've become immune to them so they aren't working so well any more. It goes away almost instantly during the treatment, but a month or two after I finish the treatment it comes back.

So what I have learned is that it's coming from within and only a oral treatment will work. All ointments do is mask the problem and don't go deep enough inside the skin to stop it. Oral antibiotics works from with in and is the only thing that work temporary... Though I hate taking them cause it's unhealthy a lifetime of antibiotics. So what I am looking for is maybe a herbal treatment which might be better for my health that is simliar to antibiotics..

Any suggestions?

Thanks..

I have been dealing with the exact same problem for a couple years now.  I am 45 and never had any real acne or anything like that.  I've tried lots of things and one dr gave me cream for rosacea but that only helped a little bit.  I recently started using Lavender Essential Oil directly on it and so far it is going away and fast.  Also helps with the pain associated with this annoying rash or whatever it is.  So embarrassing when it starts to flake and you don't even know it.  Trust me, try the lavender and a good quality lavender.  I hope it helps you the way it is helping me.  Good luck!

I get the same thing it is a pain in the a$@ beleive it or not I use bar soap with 10% Sulfur in it when washing my face. Also after I get out of shower I use a 10% Sulfur Ointment just use a little don't go crazy. MAKE SURE BEFORE ANY ONE TRYES THIS THAT YOU ARE NOT ALLERGIC TO SULFUR! Also will help with acne. It don't cure it but controls it very well I been doing this for years. Any qquestions I will help as much as I can I'm not a doctor of any sort just an individual. This works for my skin and body chemistry it may not work for everyone but try it no need to use harsh chemicals on face or pharmaceuticals. Any one trys it post it and share your results. Remember always after you wash your face don't touch your face with your hands if they get dirty. Good luck hope this helps some one

Just wondering if you found anything to helps wth the flare ups?  Mine has been very bad lately. I tried an antibiotic, but ended up having a reaction to it.  Then I was prescribed a cortisone cream.  It worked initially, but has since lost its effectiveness. I can't tell whether this is diet related, or a product I am using.  I only get it on one nostril too.  Just feeling frustrated.

I had that problem of rash around the nose about 15 yrs ago and like you NoseRash, I tried everything under the sun but just as soon as I thought I beat it, it would come back. Finally a friend told me that a nurse had suggested to donate blood as this would regenerate new blood. So this I tried....and am happy to say this WORKED!!! Along with zinc cream, not the zinc with castor oil that does nothing, but the plain white zinc that is a lot stiffer (just make sure you don't have to go out in public for the next few hours as at first too painful to be able to rub it in).
Donated blood 3 times that year and the problem never came back till now....15 yrs later.
Just went to the blood bank today and already feel the difference.

I came across this blog a few months ago when I was looking for a cure to my rash that had suddenly appeared around my nose - a red, itchy, bumpy and basically ... angry rash. It was driving me mad and made me really conscious. Compared to some of the other bloggers, I had the rash for a relatively short time! - 4 weeks.

A Big ThankYou goes out to 'rednose 422' - as a result of your blog, I stopped using Listerine Crisp Mint Mouthwash - don't know whether it was the mint element or some other ingredient in mouthwash, but when I stopped using it, my rash went away. I was silly not to have made the connection, the rash started a little after I started the mouthwash on the advice of my dental hygienist. I have been hanging off from posting this comment in the event that I tempt fate and it comes back - but it has been 6 weeks now and fingers crossed...I am still rash free.

In the interest of others - I will keep this post up to date should my rash return. My dental hygienist incidentally just added 'Allergic to Listerine' onto my notes.

I have been having these recurring patches at the edge of my nose for a few years now. Red, flaky, tender, tingling, pin like white heads. I've been prescribed zithromax, mucoprocin, as well as anti-biotics. NOTHING seems to help and it's very hard on my self esteem to have this on my face. Just when I think it's going to heal and be gone it starts to flare back up. I am so tired of it! I am going to try the Benadryl as this is the first time I have heard of it. I hope it helps and will post back to let you know.
