Skin on penis

My husband has been having problems with the skin on the ridge of his penis - between the tip and the shaft. The skin is very thin, red and puffy- blister or burned looking when he gets out of the shower. Later in the day it looks red,dry and cracked. He as tried, diaper ointment, antibacterial cream, anti-fungal. It has gotton so bad that the touch of his cotton underwear is painful. Any suggestion would be deeply appreciated.

Just bumping this up to see if you have any other commentary after I supplied more information. He is trying a hydrocortisone creme now- no help so far...

Thank you so much for our response. He is circumsized. He has tried a fungal ointment with no relief. We have been having a great deal of problem with intercourse- he and I both end up with painful cuts. I am menopausal and am not using contraception or hormone replacement. He did try using latex condoms to see if that would prevent the problem and we have tried a number of lubricants. We haven't tried for a while and the condition has gotton worse despite the various remedies we have tried.

Hi

This may be a case of balanitis .Balanitis encompasses fungal infections, dermatitis and even psoriatic skin conditions .The risk for balanitis increases among uncircumcised males. You have not mentioned  whether your husband had prior circumcision or not .This is a significant point in cases such as these. Dry, thin and red skin involving the genitals may suggest a dermatitic skin condition. It may also have a fungal component.

It may be necessary to note surrounding circumstance prior to the onset of this skin condition. The use of latex condoms or the presence of IUD's or diaphragms as a form of contraception may be linked to this. Are any of these applicable in your case?
