side effects of knee injections of OA

I started to have knee injections, once a year, for my OA.  It seemed to help until the third year, then I was given Synvisc.  I am on my second round of Synvisc along with an injection of Kenalog for bursitis pain in legs.  I have just been given my second shot and will receive one more next week.  My question is I have been having the butterfly rash since all this started a few years ago.,  I have been diagnosed as rosacia.  I also have had a severe loss of hair, and the texture has changed so dramatically,  any new growth is completely different than it was before. My face and hair have been casing me problems for 4 years.  Could any of these be caused by Kenalog or Synvisc?

Hello. I had Synvisc injections (3) for osteoarthritis in my knee. 5 most later, severe shedding of hair diagnosed as Telogen Effluvium. After the first injection, I did notice stiffness and leg swelling but it subsided after a few days. So I too am debating on the possibility of the correlation.

Hello,

Since you are having the symptom of easy bruisability also,so it definitely needs evaluation. It can be due to anemia, deficiency of vitamins C, K, B12, or folic acid, SLE, bone marrow disorders, liver diseases or leukemias.

SLE has easy bruisability as well as a typical butterfly rash on the face.So pls get yourself evaluated for these possibilities esp SLE and aplastic anemia(associated with hair fall).A comprehensive profile is needed to pinpoint a diagnosis.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Warm regards.

thank you for your comment.  I hope I do not have any of the above, but I also have been on meds since Jan.04, for cardiac stress.  also later have had historectomy, bladder repair, eye surgery.  d&c, I had hair loss, starting 3 months or so after my hyst.,after that it has been all downhill, noticing red forhead w/bumps at times and itching. I have doctored extensively, and no-one can tell me what is going on.  I hate to admit this, but I had to diagnos my rosacia myself, and therefore the dematologist started treating me for this.  Oh Well.  I have since had (just last month) a cardio=cath. which proved negative, only 20% blockage in front valve.  rest perfect formy age.  I am still on all my meds.  (aspirin, benicar, toprol, crestor,  also premarin(vaginal) vitamin D, calcium w/D, and should start Boniva but need a specific remembrance day to start. I think I have had far too many times being under aesthetic, but no one can tell me if this has caused all my problems.  For a women, it is very hard to watch your hair fall out and walk around with a beet red face.  (I guess vanity takes preference)  Oh and I also have blood marks over my arms and legs if I happen to bump anything or just scratch my arms.  HELP

Hello,

Kenalog is a steroid (Triamcinolone) and Synvisc is a hylan which is used for osteoarthritis.Long term use of both can cause changes in the skin, facial swelling and redness and flushing of the skin. However as you have been diagnosed with rosacea,so other causes also need to be looked into. The exact cause of rosacea is still unknown but some of the aggravating factors are gentics, mite sometimes found in hair follicles (Demodex folliculorum),H.Pylori infection of stomach, gastrointestinal disease, and medications that cause blood vessels to widen.

Roascea is not directly caused by these drugs but they may cause diltation of blood vesself and hence facial flusing.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.
