7 mo puppy has had diarrhea for quite some time

My boyfriend and I have Belgian Mali/Dutch Shepherd mix, he'll be 8 months old this month.

We recently drove cross country to be with my family during a time of loss and crisis and brought our dogs(we also have a 5 year old Manchester terrier.)

We took them both and his parents dog to a dog park in a state park that had a running creek. All the dogs played in it and he ended up throwing up but then that got better.
He's had the runs for more than a week now but it fluctuates. Either pure water to mushy to solid.
(He's had his shots and was dewormed before we got him @ 8wks.)
Anyways, we tried no food for 24 hours, then my mom made him a mix of foods that would be easy on him and then we reintroduced his dry food again, added a little cheese and it was solid. That was a week or so ago and he was fine up until the last day or so and it's back to water and really runny. I tried adding some cheese when I fed this morning we'll see if it works.

It smells nasty and he has gas and is farting all the time.
He is still incredibly active, incredibly playful, he's eating ad drinking normal.

We're far from home and broke as hell and staying with my mom so I want to try to find options before going to a vet.

Could it just be stress? Because my brothers girlfriend passed away and we've been here a month and it's a mad house with lots of screaming and late nights and sometimes we have to leave them at the apt because we can't take them everywhere we go so I assume it freaks him out when he leave.

I hope it's only stress.

You need to take stool samples into your Vet to be checked.  Good possibility it is Giardia and you need medication.
Whatever, you would be wise to bleach bowls daily, try to confine pot tying to one area, bleach that, if you can and keep your hands washed.

I hope he had his full set of shots after you got him and was checked for worms again.

You can try a diet of cooked rice and a little cooked hamburger (or whatever meat you choose).  Keep him on it for a few days then slowly bring they dry dog food back.  What type of food are you feeding him now?  I suggest a higher quality food, its usually more consistent with its ingredients.

If the diarrhea doesn't go away on its own soon, you will need to get him check by a vet to make sure he didn't pick up anything unhealthy on the trip.
