Hi Shaz...
Thanks so much for the update. I'm glad to read that he is doing better.
Cheers to you too...!

Thanks Connie for your input, much appreciated. Luckily Wags seems to be clearing up nicely at the moment. I applied a little Neocort cream that I use for hotspots, guess it worked or didn't hurt it anyway. Still don't know what caused it, he must have touched something out of the ordinary as he has always used a stainless steel bowl and he is still having the new food. Let's hope he stays away from whatever it was.
Cheers Shaz

Ouch! from me, too......I wouldn't let this go any farther....He needs to see his Vet for a Skin Scrape.....The results will determine if this is Fungal (Such as Ringworm), Bacterial (Such as Staph) or Mites (Such as Mange).......
Naturally, each problem has a different treatment......This does not look like a normal allergic reaction to me......I personally am leaning towards possible Demodectic Mange.....Have him evaluated ASAP......Let us know what you find out.......Good luck, Karla
Oh Yes, by the way....if all of this started when you changed the food....then I would suspect he may be having a reaction to the new food...so...go back to the original stuff. Just because the change did not affect the other dog, does not mean it won't affect this dog.
I could guess that it might be possible that he has a bad case of contact dermatitis. Possibly from a plastic, rubber,or cheap ceramic dog dish. If he uses plastic, rubber, or cheap ceramic dishes, Change his dishes to stainless steel or glass. If it is contact dermatitis from his dishes, changing the dishes should help. Also, keep his dishes clean.
If it is not the dishes, it could be from anything he is rubbing his nose on.
Pay attention, what does he like to rub his nose on or sniff...? Maybe the other dog...? The carpet, or grass...? Have you changed brands of flea or tick products...? Have you started using something different on your grass or in your yard...? Any new cleaners around the house...?
Boy...good luck with this.
As far as treatment goes, I know that I have been told by my vet, that a good triple antibiotic ointment can be used, and applied to the area twice a day...but I don't like the idea of my dog being able to lick the ointment off and ingest it.
May I suggest that you submit this question, and photo to the...
Ask-the-Veterinarian section of this forum.
I am sure the vet would love to see this pic...! It is a very good photo.
Best wishes, and good luck...let us know how things progress.
