Food going up nasal cavity

The other week I was eating some cake and somehow some of it went up my nose.  I eventually got it down after snorting and blowing my nose.  I didnt think too much of it until this week when the same thing happened again except I couldnt get the food down.   The problem is now whenever I eat all my food keeps getting caught in my nasal cavity.  My left nostril feels rather weird where it joins the bak of my throught, it feels like there is   some sort of gap which wont close.  Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening or what can be causing it?  It's quite distressing and making it very awkward to eat solids.

Thanks

I have had my tonsils removed and this happens all the time, food gets caught up there and it makes it so I cant swallow (even when not eating) there must be a mechanism back there that does this, I go days without food sometimes as I cant get it out, its so depressing.

I still cannot believe there is an answer to this.  I had my tonsillectomy (at 33 yrs old) about a month ago.  I also have GERD (acid reflux and heartburn).  I kept feeling like there is something back there.  I though it was reflux and/or congestion.  But it happens almost immediately after I eat.  For some reason it doesn't happen in the morning.  It is always around lunch or mid afternoon.  I have not called my ENT yet.  But I tried using a saline spray up my nose.  It goes down into my throat and helps somewhat make the feeling better.  But I think I am starting to swell now back there.  Also in the last 2 weeks my tension headaches have awful and with no relief with any kind of medicine (I also get migraines and these headaches aren't my migraines bc my migraine meds aren't working.

But before my tonsillectomy, and almost my entire adult life, whenever I had a cold, virus, sinus infections (lots), the space where the nose meets the throat was always irritated and mucus just sat there hence getting sinus infections.  Does anyone have a solution on how to manage this and why it's happening?

A portion of just about everything I swallow gets deposited into the opening above my soft palate. I think perhaps the reflex that is supposed to lift the soft pallet when swallowing is defective. It is like I have a continuous cold, along with the food particles I cough up thin strings of mucus and mucus encompassing food particles and even liquids like tea and chocolate.  Like most of the other posts my doctor doesn't have a clue as to why this is happening...much less a solution. I have started to gargle with Listerine before I retire and after I awake which seems to help a little. If nothing else it helps me to cough out more mucus encased stuff.

I coughed a piece of pretzel into my nasal passage which made me crazy.
A doctor said it would work it's way out and to wait. I tried SinuFlo ReadyRinse Nasal Wash.  It flushed the particles right out of my nose and gave instant relief!  After 24 hours of driving me crazy!
Good luck!

I broke my nose in June for the sixth time and everything seemed to be ok. For about three years I have been unable to get Medicare to pay for the supplies to use the $700.00 C-Pap machine they purchased for me. I started tasting what seemed like a rotten taste on occasion. I have had migraines with fever, chills and vomiting for the last two months. Yesterday I noticed some peas I had eaten coming out of my sinuses. It dawned on me that I am regurgitating in my sleep because I don't have my C-Pap in use. This is a very dangerous situation and I have had a recent heart attack. Sleep apnea is very hard on the cardiovascular system. Medicare spends money on equipment and then won't pay for the supplies to use it! Is it any wonder we have so many issues with Medicare? They pay thousands for unneeded electric wheelchairs for many and all you have to say is that you can't make it to the bathroom in time!! I think this food in the nasal and sinus cavities just might be a sleep apnea problem.
