Endometriomas

I have been diagnosed with endometiomas.  I am going to be going into the Doctor's Office to determine what the next steps will be.  I don't know what questions to ask when I go in.  This whole situation is very sudden and overwhelming.  He had stated Thursday before my ultrasound on Friday, that they may have to take my ovaries out.  I have done some research, but I just need pointers on what to ask during the appointment.  Please help!

My gyn finally forwarded the report from the ultrasound and it looks like he will do a laparoscopy first so that he can see what is happening.  I am praying that the endometrioma can just be removed but if not, we will deal with what happens.  Thank you for responding!

Thank you so much for responding!  It looks as though both of my endometriomas are attached to the ovaries.  My gyn is going to do a laparoscopy to determine how bad it is. Thankfully, my husband and I are discussing adoption.  He is being so understanding!  I hope your 2nd surgery goes well and I will be praying for you.

In my (first) case I had to have the ovary out as the endometrioma was stuck to it and the tube etc.  I'm hoping for an easier removal round 2 but am prepared for losing my last ovary as well.
I feel for people who are trying to have children as I went through years of infertility and finally had two kids with reproductive assistance.

Hi there
Can I ask how your endometriomas were found?  Was it from an ultrasound (I've read the TVUS is fairly good at diagnosing these).
I had a 7cm one removed a couple of years ago but I had to be prepared that it may be something else (they were fairly certain it was endo but didn't want to commit).
I lost that ovary and now have a 4cm one on the other ovary (at least that is what they said it was).
I am having a gyn/onc consult in a couple of weeks.  I'm done having kids so preserving my fertility isn't a must.
Thanks'

I had 2 pretty good sized ones removed last Nov.  One was the size of a soft-ball inside my left ovary.  My gyn told me at first that he wanted to go in and remove the ovary, I wasn't ready for that.  I found a reproductive endocrinologist who was able to make a window in my ovary and remove the endometrioma while preserving my fertility.  Ask if you can be referred to a RE, that is if preserving your fertility is important to you.  A re specializes in treating endo and can offer you suggestions that your ob/gyn may not be capable of or aware of.
