Endometrioma

I have recently been told that I have a 6cm growth on my ovary and a laparoscopy was suggested.  I would prefer to avoid this, do I have any non-invasive options?  Would Depo-Provera help?

With a cyst that big you will need surgery or it could just take over your ovary-- that is what happened to my sister. I agree with "ticked" get an expert. To find one near you contact the endo association:
http://www.endometriosisassn.org/

They will help you find a good one. Do not wait too long. I know my endo doc would not leave a 6 cm alone and he is one of the best he contributed to a chapter in the book put out by the endo assoc and he says that if the cyst is larger than 2 cm it needs to be looked at surgically to make sure it is not cancerous. (book number 2 by them-- it is the source book) My doc is on the board for the endo association.

Do not mess around you should find an endo specialist and get surgery to have it removed.

I started taking Marvelon21 continuously after my surgery 4yrs ago. No breaks and I get 2-3 break through bleeds a year.

I had 4 incisions not three as it normally is because I had previous bowel surgery when I was younger so they were afraid that they might cause internal bleeding of they cut through and hit something.

I had a rectovaginal nodule which was removed and was the best thing that came from that surgery. I was finally able to go to the bathroom without being in pain.

I had deep endo as you can see from my profile.  I had tons and tons of endo, and scar tissue everywhere, and was diagnosed with stage IV.  My ovaries and tubes were wrapped around my uterus.

I cant see my scars hardly at all and it didnt cause any deformity because they were small incisions.

You need to make sure that you have an expert in endo or you will regret having the surgery.

My friend had her eggs frozen not due to Endometriosis but simply because she wanted to get pregnant later with her boyfriend, they just perform blood tests to rule out certain conditions, such as Endo, and illnesses to ensure healthy eggs.

I have always had painful periods, since my first menstrual cycle, although some months are less painful than others.  I think the most important thing is to stop my periods from occuring so that the abnormal endometrial tissue stops bleeding every month, will Marvelon do this?

What did they do on your laparoscopy?  Did this help you immensely?  What are your scars like?  When did you have this done?  Sorry for all the ?'s, I am just curious ;-) I have a friend that had one done some years ago and her belly has not gone back to what it was, i.e., her muscles are now a bit deformed....I am very fit and take good care of my body so naturally this is a concern....

Are you in any sort of pain?

I have never heard of anyone offering to freeze your eggs and I live in Canada. I wonder if they would only if you asked.

If the cyst isnt bothering you I would leave it. I had no choice but to have a lap done. I was in pain for 15yrs.

She (my doc here in Maui) thinks it is an endometrioma due to a preliminary but not definitive diagnosis that my doctor in LA gave me a few years ago.  He said that the only way to be sure would be to perform a laparoscopy.  In addition, I have a history of endometriosis in my family.  The Maui doctor suggested a laparoscopal procedure to diagnose and remove the 6cm mass (she just knows this from the dark mass in the ultrasound image).

Also, I have a friend that froze her eggs in LA and they performed a blood test to check for endometriosis....I'm curious why I wasn't informed of this option, rather than the more invasive surgical diagnosis.

Perhaps I can try this birth control option Marvelon....

I would try taking a low dose BCP such as Marvelon to see if it shrinks the cyst. Did they say what type of cyst it was (endometrioma?)
