Not sure what to do about surgery

I went to the doctor today and luckily, my orange sized cyst has decreased in size.  It is still there and he did find a small one on my right ovary that wasn't there two weeks ago.  So, the decision that I now have to make is either to schedule a lap surgery, remove the cysts and any endo and that should give me some pain free time for a bit or wait a bit and see what happens.  He did mention lupron or the depo shot after the surgery, but that is something i really don't want to do based on watching my sister on lupron.  So, i need to decide if i want to wait another menstrual cycle or so and see what happens or just go for the surgery next week.  What do you all think?  Part of me says to just wait if the doctor is not pushing for it, but I'm also worried that with my next menstrual cycle, the cyst will enlarge again and I'll have all the pain that I had after sex and right before getting my period.  What do you all think?  I wish this was an easier decision to make.  Either you need surgery or not.  I appreciate any advice.  Thanks.

I've had a lap a few years ago.  I guess my thinking right now is to make sure I really need to get it done.  But, the doctor wouldn't of mentioned it if he didn't think it was necessary.  Good luck w/your appointment.

Good luck.  I know that having the surgery is a scary thing but it really is not that bad.  The pain of a cyst rupturing is way worse I think and i have had both several times.  It is probably a good decision to wait and see though.  You can always have the surgery in a month if it does not get better.  I think the fewer surgeries you have the better.  I wish you good luck and hope that the cysts get better.  I am dealing with a bad ovary right now also and it is no fun.  I am getting a u/s in a week to see if my ovary is to big.  Hoping it is not because I don't want to have surgery again either!!

hi, thanks for your advice.  i have been on the pill for many years now and during that time, the doctor has switched me to different ones (which he just did a week ago and now i'm dealing with the worst headache).  i think i'm going to give it one more menstrual cycle and if i'm in the same pain, i'm going to have the lap.  i did have a cyst rupture a few years ago, and i agree, one of the worst pains i've ever experienced.

With this disease it is really how you cope with the disease. Have you been on the pill to decrease the size of the cyst?  I had a 10cm cyst and was on the pill for 7 months and it decreased a little but it didnt go away.  If it is blood filled it wont disapear.  You need it removed.  You dont want that to burst inside because a) that would hurt like no tomorrow and b) if it breaks it will be all over your abdominal cavity and that is where it stays.  You need to have it removed and with this disease it doesnt go away so it is up to you what your options are.  With your sister the lupron maybe wasnt any good but everyone is different and it may help you.  it was okay for me for the time I was on it but once I came off it, it was back with vengence.  I would try the pill first for a while and see what happens if nothing than it would hurt to have the surgery.
