going soft?

I am a 19 year old male who has recently become sexually active. So far, I am able to remain hard and climax without difficulty as long as my partner and I stick to oral sex. But when I am preparing to penetrate my partner, I immediately get soft upon contact. The condom goes on fine and I am very aroused and excited about the prospect of penetration, but I can't seem to stay hard when the time comes. What's going on?? note: there has been one occasion that penetration was possible until climax, but I was intoxicated

This is not surprising. Did you take any alcohol? There are studies that show that small amounts of alcohol may improve erections and libido. I have tried it a few times and it really helped. I'm not an expert but I believe that alcohol may act centrally and activate some areas of the brain responsible for sexual function. Anyway, it's definitely not a good idea to take alcohol on a regular basis, just to improve erections.

This seems to be another case of sexual performance anxiety. I suggest you read my reply to Lytyr's topic 'Erection only fails before penetration' for more detailed info. Basically, I said that this problem is extremely common and easily treatable; patients should go to a urologist and do a series of tests to make sure there's nothing organically wrong with them; and even if this is purely psychological, a urologist can prescribe an effective treatment. I'm not a doctor, but I suffered from this problem (coital anxiety) for many years and oral drugs were very effective in my case: Cialis, Vigamed (oral phentolamine 40 mg) and a natural supplement for the treatment of anxiety called Seredyn. A penis ring may also be helpful in these cases. Always consult your doctor before you decide any of these solutions.
