If you search medhelp forums you will see many reports of bad cataract surgery outcomes.
I think that is normal because people asks for help when they have problems or when in doubt.I myself have posted a lot of doubts, always with fast and good answers from medhelp`s doctors members (thank you all doctors!).
Anyway, I will report my case, which was a successful one.
As my doctor said, it is a surgery and so has its risks, but they are minimum and the results are usually great.
did some pre-surgery exams, just to see if there were some condition that could complicates the procedure, and, except for some conditionos I already had (glaucoma and hi power myopia) everything was fine. You should discuss this matter with your doctor.
My surgery took only 6 minutes and as he said it was perfect, and I could feel it really was.
2 days after surgery I was seeing 20/20, and I did`t feel nothing, neither during surgery, nor after it, and the images was incredible sharp and clear. I did`t know I was seeing so bad before surgery, I am seeing better now than before cataracts appears, also and don`t need glasses for far vision, just reading.
The procedure was exactly the one Dr. John mention on his post above.
But I do have minor problems that will be corrected in a few months.
The worst one is OCP (search the forum). It is a commom complication that has a easy solution, but I need to wait because my surgery has only 2 months.
The other one, which is already solved, is a big difference of power (LE is -3.75, RE is 0). Because of it I can`t use glasses for LE correction, but I am using contact lens on LE with excelent results.
So, find a good doctor, if in doubt ask, there no silly questions, remember, it is your eye.
If he says your ok to do the surgery, do it.
The state of the art for catarct removal is small incision, no sstitch, topical anesthesia and phacoemulsification.
