What are floaters? are they same as drusen?
I am having episodic blurring( as Dr. Hagen Observes0 i.e get a semi transparent film blurrin my eye This film remains for a day or so..I am trying to find out whether it is dur to Age Related macular degeneration or it is because of laser iridotomy done as a preventives measure against Glaucoma. I am not getting right answer from my ophthalmologist.t.
How to confirm the real reason and the treatment. I take vitamins as suggest by JCH I wonder whther Pillocarpin- ondrop a day will help.
If my floaters ever get so bad that I can not see, I think I would consider the laser before having a vitrectomy.
Hsum4, I have already had cataract surgery and have had many problems because of that surgery.
If I had known then what I know now, I would not have had my cataracts removed. My sight is worse , and I have had way too many complications. You are so right. Make a careful decision.
I had the floaters removed from my right eye with a Vitrectomy. The floaters will be gone, but your eyesight will be worse and you may have to have cataract lens implants. You may also get eye infections and lose your near vision. The loss of near vision depending on the lens implant you get can be corrected with glasses, but the eye infections from the loss of the lipid layer to your eyes from the cataract lens implant operation may reoccur. Later you may have to have laser treatments to remove the membranes that grow after the lens implants. I don't know if it was worth it, but the floaters are gone from my right eye. I haven't done my left eye yet as I'm looking in later life when the occular pressure may drop. You have to go through a lot of hoops and have a strong constitution. I had bad floaters and could hardly see. Make a careful decision.

Some doctors have reported removing floaters with laser surgery, and I have seen videos of satisfied people who have had it done and were very glad that they did. Actually , I have talked with a lady in Montana whose floaters were so bad that she could no longer drive. She had it done and is able to drive now,
Most doctors do not recommend this , and I am NOT willing to try it until is it proven and accepted by most Drs unless they prevent me from driving , reading etc. Right now they are very annoying, but I am functioning very well so far.
I wish you well.
