retinal tear repair using laser

I am severly myopic and have been advised by my eye specialist for having dilated exams every 6 months so that retinal holes and tears are caught early and seal them through laser. i just want to know if there are multiple occurences of such tears and holes and they get sealed, will that create any problem. If i keep doing that, How many of such sealed tears can my retina bear ?

A retinal tag is not a specific diagnosis. If the "tag" is the flap of a horseshoe tear with vitreous traction then it likely needs last or freezing treatment. In the spectrum of retinal disease this are small treatments.

If the "tag" is a little bit of harmless tissue with no traction no treatment is usually needed. The retina specialist will give your specific information.

Treatment will only be done f the risk of treating is less than the risk of not treating a hole/tear.  Most people will require no treatment; few will require more than 3 treatments.

I am not a doctor, but have had multiple laser procedures like you are describing and for the same problem as you - myopia.

It is very important to have the tears/holes sealed up quickly to prevent fluid getting under the retina that would cause retinal detachment. If that happens then you could have much more serious problems.

I have not encountered any big problems from all the laser procedures in my eyes. I have found I have small minor blind spots in my vision but nothing the really impacts normal daily life. Except several years ago I did decide to stop playing baseball  because occasionally I would lose sight of the ball and almost got hit a few times.

But for all normal activities no problems that have slowed me down.

However, as you have probably been told by your eye doc, being severely myopic makes us a lot more susceptible to retinal tears and detachments.

I have had both in both eyes - RE work in Korea went very well. LE work (still on-going) here in Germany has been more problematic.

Good luck with your eyes.
