Does reversal of nissen take along time to recover?

I had nissen done 11 years ago. If I knew now what I didn't know then I would have never had the operations. Since that time I have a lot problems with bloating and discomfort. I thought it was something I had to live with because of not being able to burp. In the last year I've had my gallbladder and my large colon removed. Now I'm being told I have Profound Bloating Syndrome and my small bowel is distending just like my large colon. By the time studies were done on my large colon it was too late. Now I'm going in for a take down of my nissen procedure that was done 11 years ago and they are trying to decide if it should be done by scope or open because of the concerns of scar tissue. I have to have an emptying test on my stomach to see if this procedure affected my stomach too. I may have to have stomach surgery in addition to having the take down. This last year has been hell and I wouldn't wish it my worst enemy. I'm hoping things will get better but I know I will have to deal with the reflux again and that was pretty bad before my surgery. Anyone out there has had this to my degree. My doctors tell me I'm the worst they have every seen with Bloating Syndrome that caused this much damage.  Tammy

my son had a Nissan age 15 for severe refluxing x yrs. He has worse problems now than before the surgery, cant eat, developed gastroparesis and his surgery was done at a top notch facility ..... he has lost 30 lbs and we are going to have the wrap undone. The problem is, gastroparesis is vagal nerve related.... so I am wanting to know how does one determine via testing, if the vagal nerve is intact so that an unwrap would allow my sons somach to contract once again... it worked perfectly prior to surgery, now, now at all. I hope some good physician is researching the area of electrical physiology of the vagal nerve testing to the stomach.... otherwise, the unwrap may cause more problems. I recommend no one ever have the NISSAN procedure.

What happened with your reversal, was it successful?  also had one done over 10 yrs ago and wish I didn't.  Now has loosened and instead of having it redone want it reversed.  Any info would be appreciated!

It took alot of tests and a long time to get them to realize that the Nissen was the cause for my problems. The surgeon now is telling me I may have problems with stomach related to the Nissen too. The last person he did a take down on had stomach problems requiring more surgery in addtion to the take down. They officially put in my medical record this week a diagnosis of Profound Bloating Syndrome related to the Nissen procedure. I never thought this day would come. I have seen many doctors and before they all said they didn't think the Nissen was the problem. In a way it is a relief but also frustrating that it took so long. I wish now when they took me in to the colon surgery that they could of done this at the same time and by now I would be fully recovered and on with my life. Well they tell me one more surgery and hopefully things will be better. The only thing then will I will have reflux again and I'm not sure how I feel about that, but I know I can't risk loosing my small bowel with problems I'm having. Keep complaining to your doctor. The sqeaky wheel always gets the oil. Keep in touch.

How did you get your doctor to reverse the surgery?Mine acted like I would just have to deal with the pain and retching, because the surgery would cause more adhesions. When I started hurting so bad,and retching,I questioned the doctors, about the nissen causing my problems. The doctors that do the surgery dont want to admit,it can cause SEVERE problems, and the other doctors dont know that much about it.I questioned a nurse practitioner that I seen in th ER about it causing my symptoms, and she said ive never heard of that surgery.I had a gut feeling that it was this causing my problems.I was in the hospital,a couple of wks ago,and the told me that my small bowel was inflamed, and that colitis had caused it.I never knew I had colitis. However,I beleive everything stems to the nissen surgery. If a doctor would only listen.I am so sorry that you had to have your colon removed.I wish they would undo mine.I know this cant be good on our entire body. Please keep me updated.

WHEN I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS LATE LAST YEAR I KEPT ASKING THE DOCTORS IF THEY THOUGHT MY PROBLEMS WERE RELATED TO THE NISSEN PROCEDURE. THEY KEPT TELLING ME THEY DIDN'T THINK SO. SO AFTER EVERYTHING THAT HAS HAPPENED THEY HAVE HAD TO ADMIT I WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG. SOMETIMES I WISH DOCTOR'S WOULD LISTEN BECAUSE THERE IS ALWAYS THE SMALL AMOUNT OF PATIENTS THEY SAY WILL HAVE COMPLICATIONS AND IT SEEMS THE PATIENT HAS THE ONE GOING THROUGH ALL THE PAIN AND SUFFERING BEFORE SOMEONE WILL LISTEN. DON'T OVERLOOK WHAT YOUR BODY IS TELLING YOU. I WISH I WOULD OF GONE IN YEARS AGO BECAUSE AT THIS POINT I MAYBE WOULD STILL HAVE A GALLBLADDER AND A COLON. ESPECIALLY HAVING MY COLON REMOVED HAS BEEN A LIFE CHANGING EVENT AND I WAS SO ILL AFTER SURGERY MY FAMILY WASN'T SURE I WOULD MAKE IT THROUGH DUE TO COMPLICATIONS. NEW I'M FACED WITH ANOTHER OPERATIONS AND SORT OF FEARFUL OF THINGS GOING WRONG AGAIN, BUT I REALLY DON'T HAVE MUCH CHOICE IF I WANT TO SAVE MY SMALL BOWEL. IT'S ALL I HAVE LEFT. SO DON'T UNDER ESTIMATE WHAT YOUR BODY TELLS YOU LIKE I DID. I WISH SOMEONE WOULD ME WHAT I WAS FEELING WASN'T NORMAL AFTER HAVING A NISSEN PROCEDURE.

Please read my post about nissen problems.I talked to the doctor that done my nissen today, and he told me that the pain I am having is from adhesions from the surgery, and unless they absolutely have to,they wont do another surgery on me,because it will cause more adhesions, and later on I will be in more pain.Have you ever had to vomit, worse thing ive ever been through, its nearly impossible with the nissen.I am also unable to burp, and have severe gas.I sure dont know how he expects anyone to live like this. Please keep me updated on having yours undone. Thanks
