Chronic diarreah

Hi, I wonder if you could help me. I have had diarreah for the last 3 months. I have been coming off medication for the last 6 months and completely finished about 2 months ago. The medication I have stopped is Pregabalin (Lyrica), Oramorph and Amilsulpride. I haven't had constipation and more often than not I don't have pain, the only pain I have had is a bit of cramping but not for a while. The diarreah is so bad that at times I have had trouble holding it. I am a 35 year old female, I am an amputee and have arthritis of the spine. I have had bloods taken and they came back clear. I hope someone can help. Thank you for reading.

You need more tests than just bloodwork.  Your doc needs to look at stool samples, a CT scan would be helpful, and possibly a colonoscopy and an endoscopy.  Your doc should probably give you a round of antibiotics in the meantime.  Now, this may have all been caused when you went off all your medicines, but I cannot imagine it would have lasted the two months since you got off them.  And I have to say that Lyrica is a good medicine, but I'm sure you had good reason to stop it, but if it helped you, I'd be inclined to keep it if you have problems that have resurfaced after stopping your meds.

At home, you can drink extra water, take some liquid vitamin/minerals a couple times a week, eat oat cereal with Acidophilus milk on it.  But I have to say I really feel sorry for you, gee whiz, it's not enough that you're hindered by your various health issues, but to have endless diarrhea on top of it, I know you are irritated and exhausted.  I hope more involved tests will diagnose the cause of your diarrhea and that docs can fix it, which they should be able to.

Hi there ggreg.

I have had a course of antibiotics... Next step is my stool sample. My GP said she didn't want to refer me to the gastro clinic until she is sure it isn't the reduction of medication, however that was a few weeks ago. I will go back on Monday I think. Thank you for the ideas of what to take I will get some vitamins and some Acidophilus milk as suggested.

I came of the Lyrica because it had ceased to work. I had been on it for 5 years and had increased to maximum dose without relief. They withdrew the Lyrica and gave me 60mg Amiltriptaline and I am now pretty much nerve pain free in my stump. Morphine I was taking because the pain was so bad but once the Amiltriptaline started there was not a need for it.

Thank you so much for answering my post.
