Difficulty initiating swallowing

For the past few years I have had difficulty initiating the swallowing process.  Sometimes I find that it is harder than others, but I can't figure out what causes this.  It feels like somewhere between my nose and mouth is swollen, making the opening to swallow smaller and feels kind of like swallowing while holding your nose.  Once I swallow, I'm fine it's just that it takes a lot of effort to swallow.  I'm wondering if sinuses could be causing this and what do I need to do to get rid of this?

Do you have any other symptoms such as tiring quickly, or problems with other voluntatry movements, ie raising your arms, moving your leg, vision problems. I have a neuro-muscular disorder called myasthenia gravis of which difficulty swallowing is a symptom so you should be checked out by a neurologist.

Snteter, you may want to consult and ENT who can check to see if the throat or surrounding regions are swollen. But if you're having trouble initiating swallowing, it could also be a muscle or a neural problem and you may need some tests to try to pinpoint where the problem originates.
