Diverticulosis or food poisoning

My husband has Diverticulosis and two nights ago he ate sweet potato fries. He had Chinese food earlier in the day with no after effects, but after eating the sweet potato fries for supper he walked the tread mill for 30 minutes and soon became violently ill - vomiting, diahhrea and a fever. He said his stomach felt HEAVY!  Could this possibly be food poisoning, or effects of Diverticulosis? The next day he still ran a fever, high blood pressure and pulse. Eventually throughout the day he became better but his stomach was sore. What would cause the soreness? Thank you.

it is normal to associate food poisoning with what we just ate because we tend to feel the nausea and associate it with the last taste etc.
ask him to think back to 48 hours before the diarrhea though- food poisoning is usually easy to treat with antibiotics I think- but you have to get him in to the care clinic- if you see bloody stools too I was told not to be too alarmed- it is the sloughing off in the intestines-from the food poisoning- so
any of those thoughts help make sense out of it all?

Hi.  You might want to suggest that he make an appointment with his doc or a GI to rule out diverticulits, which is in infection in the large colon.  The symptoms sound similiar to what I went through with the exception of the hgh blood pressure.  Is he having pain in the lower left side?  That is where the sigmoid colon is.  Hope this helps.
