Would surgery for diverticulitis be recommended?

I am a 54 year old woman and am having a second round of diverticulitis in 3 months - both requiring a trip to the ER, antibiotics and having to deal with severe pain. I have had a 99.9-99.5 fever for three days now. Should I be worried about that?

I am concerned that this will be my life and am wondering if I should consider surgery. I am reading that cipro and flagyl will stop working. This is the third time I have taken it as I had to take it twice the first time.

Also, I need to add that I had to have an emergency surgery to remove my gallbladder between the two bouts of diverticulitis.
