H. PYLORI -ANTIBIOTECS-ULCER

Hello
I was having an abdominal pain on top of the belly button to the chest bone then I went to the doctor who decided to do the endoscopy with the following report:
Findings:
- Esophagus: showed GERD grade I
- STOMACH:
         -CARDIA: Partially incompetent
          - FUNDUS:Free
          - Body: Free
         - ANTRUM: Free
                 - DUODENUM:
                                       - 1st PART : chronic erosive antral.
                                        -2nd PART : Free duodenilis.
                  - BIOPSY: NO
                - CONCLUSION: : GERD grade I , chronic antral erosive duodenitis
Then  I was adviced to do   the breath test for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) which turned POSITIVE.

The doctor has prescribed  the following medication:
1. Opamox 500mg (Amoxicillin B.P) two tablets twice a day for five days .
2. KALACID 500 mg(CLARITHROMYCIN)one tablet  twice a day  FOR ten days .
3. Flazol 500 mg (metronidazole)one tablet  three times a day for five days   AFTER THE Opamox.
4. PANTOZOL 40 mg one tablet  twice a day for 60 days.
My questions are :
• Do I have an ulcer and how serious is this?
• Is the H. Pylori curable and are these medication enough ?
• I did some changes on the medication timing but I took the required daily doses ( the first day I took the first dose at  1330 when  got the medication and the next dose was at 2320, the next day in order to re organize the time according to the daily working hours I took the 1st dose at 0800 and the second dose at 2000, the 3rd day , because of Ramadan where we fast in the morning and eat after sunset I changed the time of the 1st dose to 1840 and the 2nd dose at 0310, and here the the time between the two doses  is less than befor but I am still using the daily doses )
• Did I  miss use the medication and Do I have to start all over again or  extend the time or any other corrective action?
• So if did I screw the medications ,then the bacteria will be resistive to these medications and there will be no medications?
• For Flazol 500 mg (metronidazole) three times a day for five days   can I take 2 tablets at 1840 and one tablet at 0310, or I have to divide the time into three and use one at 1840,one at midnight, and the third at 0312?

thank you doctor for your response
now with what you have said there will be no treatment if the resistance is developed or there will be an other way to treat this?
thank you

Hi there!

The report does not describe an ulcer but mentions erosive duodenitis which is just an initial lesion and if left untreated can lead to ulcer formation.
Yes, H. Pylori is curable and the medications prescribed are apt.
The medications need to be taken as prescribed by your treating doctor. Aside the total dosage, the time interval between the doses is also important.
With the changes made, the infection may or may not have been cured though there is little chance of resistance development.
Hope the information is helpful.

Take care!
