There is no standardized test used to measure dementia secondary to use of Statins. Dementia may have many eitiologies. Statins dissolve cholesterol, and memories are stored in a similiar class of substances. In some patients Statins are absolutely necessary, but they are often overprescribed. There is sufficient literature on the internet that will enable you to make your own decision. As Red_Star stated, there are more than five good reasons not to worry about cholesterol. There is evidence that statin-induced dementia can be reversed if the statin is discontinued. Such a documented case involved the head flight surgeon at NASA, and is explored on the internet in an article by Dr. Mercola, M.D.
Thanks Red Star but the memory damage has already occured many thanks Tony
Cholesterol is not the enemy. Inflammation is. Stop the drug and get your life back..and hopefully your memory will recover fully. Check out the article "5 reasons not to worry about your cholesterol numbers" by Chris Kresser.
