Hi. How are you? I read everything you had to say about the ducks and salmonella. You know, years ago, especially after everything that happened with the aids epidemic everywhere and all, I literally became unnaturally terrified of everything and anything I would touch outside. I stopped opening door handles without a Kleenex and anytime I would go to a market and use a shopping cart, I started taking a small bottle of the "antibacterial liquid" with me so that I could immediately put it on my hands after I got outdoors to my car and put the cart back! I would scrub my hands really good. (To be honest, even today, I do use the liquid after touching any shopping carts outside after an ABC Special one night and how they said they could not believe the "types"of germs they found on the shopping cart handles. Another place that I was nervous about was any bathroom I would use outdoors in a store. However, it NEVER made sende to me that people would wash their hands and then, they would immediately TOUCH THE DOOR HANDLE to leave the Ladies Room!!!! That must have a million germs on it! Because SO many people do NOT wash their hands after going to the bathroom! So, what would the sense be of washing YOURS and then, touching a handle where so may did NOT wash their hands after going??!! I never understood that! So, I wash my hands and then take a paper towel and open the door THAT way!
Let's be honest.......there are germs EVERYWHERE!!!!! As far as the ducks, as long as you washed your hands.....just have your jacket cleaned or wash it yourself! I have heard of Salmonella with turtles and when a restaurant near here one time had an outbreak of it and it turned out that they discovered it was because one of the employee's did NOT wash their hands after going to the bathroom and then handled people's food!! YUCK!! Also........fresh chicken, left on a counter, etc. Always wash that place off afterwards. It can be in various places but those are just some. So many other types of germs, as you know, are around. Just try to be as normal as you can about it without it taking over your life and use the hand sanitizer after you have touched places where others have touched before.......even money in your pocket or purse. Just carry a small bottle with you. It does help. Just regular hand washing with warm/semi-hot water takes germs away....sometimes even better than the sanitizer! so........please don't worry about the ducks any longer! You washed your hands and just clean the jacket! That's it!!! And yes, we can get Salmonella from eggs sometimes also. Just watch for any "recalls" on the news, that's all. Usually, a supermarket KNOWS about the recalls already and has removed the "culprit!" We all just do the best we can.....right?! We cannot have things like this take over our lives.......we all have enough going on as it is today. Take care and Happy Holidays!! Enjoy! Sue
Bacteria are everywhere. Get used to them.
Yeah like I said I washed my hands after feeding the ducks so if there were any germs, they would have been on my jacket. I was just worried about then transferring germs from my jacket around and getting sick. I'm a bit of a germophobe so I'm using this experience to try to break that haha.
The odds of you getting sick due to the ducks on your clothes from salmonella is very very small. You have taken the proper precautions already by washing your hands, which is one of the main ways to get it. Food is another by not being properly prepared or handled.
If you still can't shake off the nervousness of germs on you, you can get Lysol Disinfectant Spray that kills 99.9% of germs that you can give a light spray to your garments. But you should be fine even without the spray. =-)
