Splinter wound, should I take the prescribed antibiotics?

I had a wood splinter in my thumb about the size of a dime and I had to go to an urgent care clinic to have it removed because it was under my skin and the tip of the splinter had broken off. The doctor made some incisions around the wound to open it up and be able to remove the splinter. He prescribed me antibiotics, 500mg of cephalexin to take 3 times daily for 7 days. I'm debating whether I should actually take the antibiotics or not because after all it was just a splinter wound and they disinfected the entire area at the clinic. My question is, should I take the prescribed antibiotics or would I be fine by simply applying Neosporin daily until it heals?
