Unknown Illness

For the last 2-3 months I have had a swollen gland under the left side of my chin.  It will get bigger and smaller but has overall gotten bigger over the months.  I've also had naseau, night sweats, body aches, fatigue, and some mild swelling on the left side of my face.  Now, in the last week I have gotten an itchy, red pimple-like rash over my shoulders, chest, neck and back.  I'm not running a fever, but my body feels extremely hot.  What could this be?

I would certainly see your PCP, the profile of your symptoms have me concerned, so, to be safe, please see one as soon as possible.

This sounds suspiciously like Mononucleosis.  The swollen glands, rash etc. all point to Mono.  Please see a different doctor about this virus.  Epstein Barr can get serious.  Please let us know how you are - Mono can last for months, even a year or so.... You need to build your immunity with a good diet, rest and vitamins.

How could the doctor possibly know it was a bacterial infection without conducting any tests?  Sounds like you did not get the thorough kind of check a doctor should do.  As your rash has spread after a week of antibiotics and you continue to have additional symptomology, it's definitely time to go to a doctor again- a different one, in my opinion.  I hope you can find one that is more thorough!

My doctor didn't order any tests.  I was hoping that she would at least do some blood work.  She said that the lymph node was nothing to worry about unless it got bigger and to come back to see her if it did.  As far as the rash, she couldn't tell me exactly what caused it but did say that it was a bacterial infection and has me on some antibiotics.  I've been taking them for about a week now.  The rash stopped itching and did go down for several days, but know it has spread.  I also had two days of debilitating nausea this weekend and I now have pain in my left side.  I don't know if this is a side effect of the antibiotics or something new.

You need to go to a doctor as soon as possible for this and get some diagnostic testing.  Be sure and mention ALL the symptoms you've been having.  You don't really need someone guessing over the internet- suffice to say it sounds serious enough to go get it checked out by a medical doctor!  I hope you will and if you wouldn't mind, private message me an update?
