HPV and abnormal pap smears...question.

Hi!

I was diagnosed with HPV in July of last year. One of the high risk kind. That was my first time ever having a abnormal pap. My doctor did the coloscopy and everything came back fine and she told me to come back in 4 months for a follow up pap. I went back in Dec she did the pap and it came back normal. I have recently gotten the gardasil shot to at least protect me from other forms of this virus. I am scheduled to go back to my gyno in June. Can I be assured that I will have another normal pap or is it likely that the HPV will show back up. My doctor doesn't seem to be worried about it. She said since I'm young and healthy that HPV usually clears on it's on and never causes any problems. Has anyone else had a abnormal pap from HPV and never had another one ever again in life?

Thanx in advance for advice!

Yes that is true, HPV can lay dormant and not effect anyone their entire life but for some it comes and goes and I think that is what has happened to me.

Thanks for the tip about the sex 24-48 hrs before I would have never known that

I have had abnormal paps all since I began getting them, until this past Feb when it came back normal. My first pap was abnormal, I had a colposcopy done and everything turned out fine. My second pap came back abnormal with HPV low grade cells, I didn't get a colposcopy because I didn't have the money to. 2 years later, long time I know, I got another pap and it came back normal with no traces of HPV.

From what I've read HPV comes and goes, so I am going back for another pap in Aug, I have also heard that having sex 24-48 hrs before a pap will have it come back abnormal. I hope this helps!

where I live you have to do a colposcopy every 6 months for 2 yrs if you have high grade cells.

I had high grade cells and no trace of HPV but I heard it could lay dormant and not show up on a blood test. Not sure if that is true or not.

By the time most women are 60 yrs old 80% will have contracted HPV. You can get HPV even if you are using a condom and sometimes it just lays dormant in some people.
