Yes the test they used in widely used in many parts of the world including in INDIA (where i live ) .the test if perfectly ok and you are ok to move on if ur negative at 9 weeks i.e what the most docs worldwide wud say, even here Dr says that he has never seen a person turning to be positive aftr a 6 weeks negative.so time for u to move on.i wudnt worry if i was in ur place.
take care and have a safe life :)
Your test is appropriate and will be conclusive at 3 months post-exposure but I don't expect your result will change by then, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't get a conclusive result.
sorry i'm not in india im in the philippines i just don't know how advanced..or unadvanced their technology is here. thx but i still would wait for the 3 months just to be sure. and i was asking if that 3 months is applied worldwide? and how was the 6 month wndow period reduced to 3 months?
i would greatly appreciate the veterans around here to respond thx.
thx a bunch. yes i would still get that result on the 3 month mark. i was jst wondering how the eff did that 6 month period reduce to a mere 3 month? and if it is applied worldwide? i see no harm in overtesting for hiv. =)
The harm would be rather financial rather than physical. Those who have to test 6 months post-exposure have their immune system compromised. Do you think you have such situation? Fear doesn't count, though.
the window period was changed due to tests becoming more sensitive and able to pick up infections earlier.
yes i would agree. no, i'm healthy although mentally i'm being drained out of this. i'm just wondering if the 3 month window period applies to ALL generations of testing? and if you guys don't mind do you have a link that would prove that 3 months testing is enough for those with non-compromised immune system?

"A person with a negative or inconclusive result may be in the window period. This is the period of time between the onset of infection with HIV and the appearance of detectable antibodies to the virus. The window period lasts for 4 to 6 weeks but occasionally up to 3 months after HIV exposure. Persons at high risk who initally test negative should be retested 3 months after exposure to confirm results."
page not found. but thx for the info. again could someone clarify to me if all generations of testing go with this 3 month window period?
anyone?
A 3 month antibody test is recommended to follow up 4th generation testing in order to obtain a conclusive result. There is no longer any 6 month window period for any test on the market.
...its there, you need to use capital letters, type it in just like it is spelled out!
thx thx thx. im just confused as to how the top answerers here are strongly adhering with the 3 month period, while the doctors are saying 8 weeks is conclusive?
@joggen- when u say antibody test at 3 months does that mean a standard antibody test only? no need for 4th gen testing?
Everyone in this forum is bound by the FDA labeling for the tests, whereas medical doctors have their own discretion in deciding what is conclusive. However, you should take comfort in the fact that most medical doctors would already consider your test results to be conclusive. Yes, a standard antibody test at 3 months is sufficient for follow up.
thx and i'll update you guys with my test results. Wish me luck that i'm not one of those late seroconverters. XD more power to you guys for helping people like me.
