Thanks a lot gentlemen...I will grab this new lease of life with both hands.
Like Teak put it, you have no HIV to be worried of. The 99.8% could still include false positives, which are possible beyond 3 months post-exposure and warrant a confirmation test. But not false negative.
I just had that rapid test this afternoon and my results for HIV 1/2 and O have been declared negative despite the symptoms I endour and endoured. However I noticed again on the packet that the tests are 99.8 % correct. Are these tests as acurate as the ones at the lab?..its unbelievable....
The medical guidelines say it's at 3 months post-exposure. The ones who are not detected by then are those on meds post-transplant, on chemotherapy, or who are heavy IV drug user, any of which requires it to extend the period to 6 months post-exposure, otherwise 3 months.
ANY approved test should be conducted at 3 months post-exposure for a conclusive negative result, any.
I anticipate no change of possition from the Drs Hunter and Hook.As i can extract from there discourse " delayed seroconversion is an urban myth", a duo at 28 days is 100% conclusive,an hiv test at 6-8 weeks (nevermind 3 months is conclusive(?).Test results all ways out weigh symptoms regardless of symptoms and exposure history.
If my situation is believable it means I just might have gotten my life back .My last encounter was 2 years ago from my test.
1) Do you think it is advisable to run another test (just to be sure) - A friend of mine made me aware of a center where they conduct rapid tests and you get your result in 20 mins.
2) He also informed me of a neucleaic acid test for the viral dna -how ever i have just establishe it will cost me a whopping R800.
Do you think this may cancel all doubts - ive notice all tests claim an accuracy of 99.8%-why not 100%?
Thanks
As long as it was performed beyond 3 months after that sex, you're conclusively HIV negative. If you want to cross-check the veritability of my answer, you can go to the HIV expert forum and reconcile them.
Thank you Ricky for the fast response- my dr ordered a Combi antibody and antigen test. What can you conclude in your expert opinion?I have been very troubled for two years without a definate stance on this.
It should've been "transmit HIV" instead of "infect HIV" by the way.
Not all sex with an HIV+ partner will infect HIV. What kind of test did you take anyway?
