HIV Rapid Test

Hi Doc,
I recently went to Thailand and had vaginal and oral intercourse with a thai bar girl whilst drunk.  Although i'm not going to win any intelligence awards for this misdemenaour i am worried sick i might have got HIV.  Its been 5 weeks and i got a chronic sore throat, fever, i lost weight and even had night sweats.  I managed to get a rapid HIV test done recently at the the 5 week stage and it came back negative.  My questions are:

1.  How reliable is this test at this stage?
2.  Why am i getting these symptoms?

Exactly what Teak said.  You didn't mention in your original post of the vaginal intercourse you had with the girl was protected or not.  If it was protected then you have nothing to worry about in regards to HIV.  If it was UNprotected then I'd advise you to go get tested soon, and then follow it up with a conclusive test at the 3 month mark.

If you had unprotected vaginal or anal sex you will need to test at 3 months to get a conclusive test result. Your antibiotics will not have an effect on your test.
