Naat test at 17 days

Hi there,

I am a women who has had unprotected sex with 2 different men in the past 2 months.  I went to the LA Gay center 17 days after my last unprotected encounter.  They did an antibody test which came out negative (I know this was too soon) and then I took the Naat test that they offer and I got back the results this week and they were negative.  I was told that they're window period is 30 days but that 17 days is very accurate.  Anyway, they suggested that I come back at 30 days to take both tests.

Question: So although I read that the Naat is not the standard for diagnosis, should I feel a little relief based on my results at 17 days?  And how accurate will both tests (naat and antibody) be at 4.5 weeks?

PCR-RNA test is not a stand alone test and has to be used in conjunction with an antibody test. Your test will be conclusive 3 months post exposure.

Some would say that at 30 days this is a positive thing that your result is negative and it is highly unlikely that the result will change, but for a conclusive result testing at 3 months is crucial, all the best

Hi Teak,

Thanks for your response.  I returned to the center yesterday after 30 days and took the Naat test and antibody test over again.  The antibody test came back negative and i wont get the results to the Naat test for another 10 days.  I know that you said 3 months is conclusive, but should I feel hopeful about things so far?  I was told that with my Naat result at 17 days (it has a window of 7-14 days) and the antibody test yesterday, that I should feel good about the result.

Thanks again, Teak.
