Symptoms are not a reliable method to diagnose HIV. A large percentage of HIV-infected individuals never experience symptoms.
I know that is is very hard not to self-diagnose or not to pay attention to all your body's possible symptoms, but do try to avoid doing that.
HIV does not discriminate. Anyone who shares IV drug works is at a very high risk of contracting HIV, and drugs have hit inner cities the hardest. But just because somebody is non-white or poor does not mean that they are necessarily at a higher risk of HIV.
Try to take it easy until Monday. Let us know the results. It is highly likely that you will be negative just because HIV is not very prevalent in the population; however, in the very unlikely case that you would test positive, Teak (that's his user name) is an HIV expert who contributes immensely to this forum, and he is also an HIV-positive person who can offer you much support and knowledge.
It is not going to be a fun weekend to get through with all the anticipation, but it is going to be okay.
whatever the case may be..this person may or may not have been infected..and if they were...i understand i am at risk..so..you are saying the symtoms would be highly noticable?
I honestly would have never suspected the disease but my partner has done alot of harping on the subject and keeps reminding me that this person could possibly be from a particular area around here where it is poverty like conditions, people of color, and the under education..drugs and etc.. people who dont give a care about themselves or infecting others. And thats what scares me.
I understand your worries about how your partner would feel, but let's hope that he is an understanding adult (and he should be!).
Symptoms would NOT occur the day after infection. Sometimes, HIV-infected persons will have ARS 2-4 weeks after exposure, which causes enlarged (typically visibly enlarged) lymph nodes in the neck, underarm, and groin areas. Also, there can be other flu-like symptoms.
