Teak please answer: i am suicidal

Hi All,
I had multiple protected exposures with prostitutes. The last one was 7 weeks ago.
Hello doctor,

I did HIV Elisa at & weeks after exposure. It is negative. However my cd4 count has gone down from 857 to 454 in the last one month. However, the percentage change is minimal from 43.2% to 42.7%.

Do I need to be worried. Also, I have been diagnosed with Hepatitis c?

What can cause this steep decline in cd4 count in just one month. I had taken azithromycin for 3 days around 2 weeks back.

How comfortable should I be at my current negative status? I know 3 months is advised. But at online forums, they say 95% of people produce antibodies by 6 weeks.

Please advise. I am worried.

I asked the same question to an hiv specialist in India. this is what my online HIV he wrote to me:
"It is true that the HIV antibodies started appearing by 6 weeks onward. But the antibody test becomes more conclusive only around 12 weeks as some of the tests are not able to pick up the antigen so early due to its low titre.
But at this stage, a 4th generation COMB/DUO test is more conclusive. There are some other good tests also indicate the infection earlier.

CD4 percentage is good predictor than the count. Its percentage is well maintained for you still. So there is nothing to worry much.

Anyhow the answer to your question about CD4 count decrease is better interpreted with a more conclusive result of HIV. If it is negative for both HIV 1&2, then it becomes your physician's job to find out the exact cause for the decrease in CD4 count by a thorough history, family history, examination and other immunological investigation and if necessary with a biopsy.
It is very difficult to assume things."

I wam worried as hell. I want to kill myself

* Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusively negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to action by MedHelp. Conclusively negative results or a no-risk situation will be based upon the criteria established by MedHelp’s doctors. Action will be taken as follows:
    * After excessive posting, a warning will be issued by MedHelp
    * Continuing to post regarding the negative result / no risk situation will result in a 3 day suspension
    * Continuing to post upon your return will result in a permanent ban.

Hi Nursegirl,
can acute hcv infection delay hiv seroconversion?

My liver enzymes have shot up in the last one month post one month of exposure. There have been 3 reported cases of healthcare workers who were were coinfected with both viruses simultaneously repeatedly t
ested negative for hiv until well after 6 months.

Please answer this.

Only the moderators can ban people, we are all fellow members like yourself.  Teak has reminded you of the rules because they're important on a forum as busy as this.  You've been informed many times over and over that you do NOT have an HIV concern.  WE cannot tell you anything else.

Any health concerns should be discussed with your doctor, you certainly do not have HIV, but if you've tested + for HCV, you need to follow up with a doctor in order to further assess the situation.

You need to seek professional mental health help, immediately if you're suicidal.  There's nothing more we can tell you on this forum.

I will take your advice and will not go for any further antigen tests as suggested by the doctor.

I wish you could have answered the cd4 part though. Also I have tested positive for HCV.

If you remove condoms for a second and just consider a negative elisa test how confident would one be?

I know you dont do percentages. I have seen you ban people.

I wish you could explain your anwers a bit more

Teak, even the drastic cd4 count decrease in one month does not worry you?

from 847 to 454?

Can any other infection halve it in one month. I must tell you that I am extremely stressed and not eating.

How reliable is elisa at 3 weeks?

I took elisa 7 weeks after exposure.
Also, I removed my condom and gargeld my mouth and throat repeatedly with the same hand immediately afterwards.

some microscopic blood/ vaginal fluid might have gone inside my mouth/throat. Also it was done barely 5 seconds after removing the condom.

please help.
