stopped pep after 2 weeks, how long before i can have 1st hiv test

Hi,
i had an exposure around 5 weeks ago and i took pep within the 72 hours but i stopped after 14days as i was getting bad side effects. i am constantly worrying until i can get tested. i know the guideline is 28days after exposure then test again at 3mths but as i only took pep for 14 days is it ok to get tested 1mth since exposure or do i have to wait a month since i stopped pep even though i didnt do a full course? If anyone can help me with this answer then  i would be so greatful, many thanks.

You need to wait at least a month - the last day you took PEP is like day 1 of exposure.  If you had a high-risk exposure (e.g., unprotected anal or vaginal sex with someone who is HIV+), you can ask for an RNA PCR test.  Depending on how health care is paid where you live, they may not give you this test unless your exposure was high-risk, because it's very expensive compared to the 4th generation test.
