Please help me with my situation..

Hi,

Recently (2 weeks back) I had a sexual encounter (Oral by her and Vaginal insertion) with a woman. I didn't wear a condom during the oral but used it during vaginal insertion. Unfortunately it has been ripped during the intercourse and I could not notice it until I finished the act. I was hell scared from then on. Although the woman claims to be 100% sure that she is healthy I am very concerned. This encounter is the first one in my life. After this exposure I had the following physical changes.

1. Just after the day of the act there existed a sense of urinating frequently that lasted for few days (no pain, burning sensation and puss) and I dont feel it any more.

2. A week after exposure I ate lots of ice cream (around 0.7 ltrs). Immediately the next day after that I had a very sore throat which included cough and mucous. I visited a doctor who gave me ROXID(antibiotic) with ascorill she said this might be strep. After a week I still have this so I visted an ENT specialist who asked for a blood test and a CT scan. After the tests he diagnosed that I have "concha bullosa" with a deviated septum along with swollen tonsils. He gave me antibiotic "ofloxacin".

Following are my blood test results:

total leucocytes : 8000
lymphocytes: 37% (22-44 required)
monocytes: 2% (0-4 required)

Please let me know what are my chances of contracting a STD (HIV in particular). I am very scared.

The results are good because there negative but you know when to receive your conclusive result. You should have had a PCR RNA instead of the PCR DNA.8 weeks to go and your results will be conclusive. All the best.

Hi,

My test results came back today. At 4 weeks both my TRIDOT test (equivalent 3rd generation ELISA antibody test) and PCR DNA test both are negative. I know that I would have to take a conclusive test at the end of 12th or 13th week but my question is how favorable are these results and what would be the case that would be lead to opposite results at the end of 13th week? Please kindly help me because it would reduce my anxiety and help me to focus more on tasks at hand.

PCR-DNA tests are not diagnostic tests.

Thanks a lot for the info. But I just wanted to understand whether a PCR DNA test is very reassuring test at this stage and if that being negative would be very unlikely to change after 3 months? I am asking this question so that I can stay calm for next two months. I already went through a lot for this one month.

Why test twice when you can test once with an antibody test and it will be conclusive at 3 months?

That means RNA is a diagnostic test where as DNA is not. Hence the DNA test may not even tell if there exist any infection...Am I right?
