I had my 4 week test and it came negative. Thanks for your advice.
I had Hiv1 rna pcr test at the 4th day. Which came as negative. Doctor said it is 99% accurate but also suggested the same test as you did in 4 weeks. What's your take?
It is recommended to refrain from unprotected sex during a period when we were exposed to a risk and waiting for a test. If we do not practice this responsible behaviour, there is a possibility that we may contribute in spreading the virus to others.
For PEP, you need to consult a doctor, specializing in infectious disease, who is the qualified person to assess your risk and advise accordingly. We at this forum can not tell you.
Would you suggest that I go in for PEP? Another complication is that we are trying to have a baby and my wife's ovulation is due in 10 days. Is it too dangerous to have sex? I know it sounds terrible but best to know.
A day of two is too short to go for an HIV test. However your risk is there but there are many odds in your favour too, There is a strong possibility that she might not be infected, and one can not give something, he/she does not have
Antigen and Antibody Duo test is the only test we know, that can tell us conclusively in a shortest period of 4 weeks. Earlier, this time was 3 months.
Thanks for the prompt response. Is there some way of testing earlier? The incident was last night.
You had unprotected penetrative anal and vaginal sex with someone of unknown health status, therefore you have exposed yourself to the risk of HIV transmission.
"Appearing to be clean and healthy" is just a perception and there is no way known to mankind to confirm the health status without a test. One must not believe in words when a very serious matter like HIV is involved.
If you are married, I would suggest you to either refrain from unprotected sex with your wife or do it protected positively, until you get yourself tested. Now a conclusive test can be obtained after 4 weeks of exposure when an HIV Duo (Ag/Ab) fourth generation test is chosen.
