protected sex with african man

Hi everyone, im not sure if this counts as a high risk situation, but about 3 months ago i had protected sex with a nigerian man living in the uk. I am not being racist, but I have read that 3% of africans in the uk have hiv as opposed to 0.02% of non-africans, so effectively there is a 1 in 33 chance of him being positive instead of 1 in 500 if he was not african. Also this statistic doesnt take into account that some countries ie sub-saharan africa have a MUCH greater rate of hiv and also the rate is higher in men.

I know the risk is minimal if you use a condom but i also gave oral sex (he did not ejaculate) and also i began menstruating which i was not aware of until afterwards and i know the risk is much higher with blood involved.

2 weeks after exposure I had a flu-like illness - cough, headache, sore throat etc, but without fever and also the cough was productive. A lot of my friends also had colds around this time so i thought I had just caught an infection. about 2 months after exposure my armpits became very painful - constantly itching and aching pain on both sides. no noticable swollen glands in neck or groin though. now, 3 months after exposure, i have developed an extremely sore neck, and what looks like a red rash on my thigh.

I also had a mouth ulcer, but on my gum - does this sound like symptoms of hiv infection. have also had intermittent headaches and dizziness. please help as im really freaking out!! going for test at a drop-in clinic tomorrow as they had no appointments until end of december, wanted to wait for 3 month mark so test would be accurate. so scared!!

Sorry my comment got edited, that was meant to read "pre-kum", from which I have been told you can catch hiv. A small risk I know but still a risk. My worry was not a matter of race but of nationality as obviously in some countries in africa as much as 50% of the population are hiv positive. Sorry for bringing up racism but i though that might have been the reason youre response was so short and harsh-sounding.

Don't even start racist comments you are the only one that mentioned it. HIV sees no color, no gender and no sexuality. You were given the facts you were not at risk.

Thanks, I hope you're right but how can you be sure, as I have definitely read that you can catch hiv through "pre-***". Also as I was quite drunk at the time (v irresponisble i know!!) i keep thinking that maybe the condom broke without me knowing, or he didnt put one on when he said he had.

Youre response seems quite short, maybe you think im just being silly but its really difficult when youre so anxious about something it can start taking over your life. I dont know if its maybe cos you think im being racist but im obviously not racist or I wouldnt have slept with him in the first place lol, but you must admit 1 in 33 instead of 1 in 500 is quite an increased risk and hiv is very widespread in nigeria.

You were never at risk of contracting HIV.
