5 Weeks Rapid Antibody Test

Teak, Nursegal, JC1970 please provide an opinion as I m worried a lot .

I am writing in for 2nd time,  this time I had a  Rapid antibody test at 5 weeks post exposure. ( blood drawn from arm vein) which came negative . Not so sure about which generation, and detects Hiv 2 or not.

I live in Uganda which has high rate of HIV.. (8.2 %)

Exposure: 1) protected vagainal intercourse with 1st Gal

After 2 days 2nd gal protected vaginal intercourse... Unprotected oral.. Performed on her and received...  ( both gals have  risky behaviour )

Not too sure about broken condom or slippage beneath penis head, not checked during that time.

Symptoms:  fatigue ,  feeling hot and cold, body temp between 36.9 to 37,  white tongue and bitter taste in mouth, night sweats,   rash on tummy lick pin pricks and red at hair roots  , mild sore throat since day 18 ..still persistent. Stiffness in neck recently since few days , one bean size node in groin which could be felt since yesterday. I am at day 40 today.

Doctor not concernd about sore throat and other things.. And I have discussed my situation .

At day 13 WBC was high with 65% neutrophils, antibiotic was given and WBC came back to normal range after 5 days course .

Rapid antibody test at 3.5 weeks was negative.

You don't have HIV.

But even wearing condoms you can get other STDs.
Also, if you are having issues you need to go with an open mind to your doctor, and tell him.

Don't assert HIV questions.  Just tell him your symptoms and tell him you'd like to be checked out.   And at that time mention you are sexually active, and wondering if any STD could cause these problems.

He can help you decide what to do.

Everyone who is sexually active should be regularly tested for HIV (which you've done) and for STDs.

Be well

I still have issues with my throat, it's mildly sore ... And it seems to be inflamed and have tender nodes

I had negative rapid tests on weeks 7, 9, 11 ... Do I still need to wait for conclusive results ??? Or I shall move on

Hey James .

My throat is a bit better after taking antibiotics, but since day before I have a big red  pimple kind of thing on the throat... It hurts quite a bit when touched.. I don't know if it's a lymph node or just a pimple /acne.. As I have had a few of them in the same area in recent weeks.. But this one seems to be big, red and hard ..

I have started feeling weird again .. I m just too scared to go to the doctor and get another test or something ...

Hey thanks and no worries.

Symtoms mean nothing and do not diagnose HIV, I went through this about three years ago and although I had every symtom going with a risk, it was actually my mind playing tricks on me.

I promise you fella you have nothing to worry about!

Best Wishes

James

Hi there.

You don't need to test as you had no risks, there is no way you would catch HIV from any of the behaviour described in your post, simply no way,,regardless of their HIV status, you would not catch it.

Stop worrying, stop testing and continue with your safe sex, - kudos for this :)

Best Wishes

James
