***@****: hay jeff I had a Triple by-pass on 9th june. I was a runner too and I used do exercise before surgery. Now I am fine and started doing 30 min workout again in machine. I passed some critical time after the operation, say 1-2 week. My Bit was elevated, my pressure was down. What I did: I stoped the Blood pressure medication they started with me after operation. I stoped it. My bit was high and that is normal initially because I lost a lot of Blood in operation. They did not administered any extra blood. My Hemoglobin gone down and that is normal. It speens my head, when I try to get standing. Yellow flowers are experienced sometime. My conditions starting improving as blood is becoming normal. Pressure increased. Pulse gone down as soon as I started walking.
my heart rate was elevated after my cabg. At rest it was 100 and at exertion it was jumping to 186. You Father had his surgery just over a week ago? I wasn't able to walk
far then, just about to the other side of the room. He has had major surgery and it will take time to settle down. I couldn't even take proper breaths after two weeks, the chest pain from the ribs expanding was too much. When his breathing gets back to normal, he will feel much better. I had light headedness for about six weeks which is when I could just about breathe properly using all my lungs. My heart rate then started to lower, 60 at rest and 140 at exertion. There is always some heart damage where the surgery is performed, although this is less when done OFF pump. It takes time for this to recover also and I can still see the effects on my ECG two years later. This is normal. If you said his surgery was September 2008, I would be concerned.
On a last note, sometimes where the bypass vessels are grafted onto the native vessels, inflammation can occur but this does recover over the next few weeks.
I honestly thought the surgery had failed, but after a few weeks the benefits started to show.
