Long QT syndrome

I had 10 ECGS with two saying prolonged QT over the past seven months.   Both ECGs said my QT is over 500.   Do I have long QT syndrome who can this be just a hiccup on the ECG.  My cardiologist is referring me to an arrythmia specialist.   I am scared now because I have that Long QT syndrome can cause sudden death.

I will not have the ability to use a computer this weekend so this is my only chance to write today. When is your appointment? If you only had this show up twice, that's probably a good thing, especially when added to the fact no one in your family has had Long Q-T. It is possible if your blood chemistries were off the day of your EKG, that could have contributed to the cause, try not to worry about this or you will be dealing with palpitations on top of everything else. Let us know how things turn out. Take care

No one in my family has diagnosed LQTS.  Both my parents are still alive in their 60 and 70s.   My brothers are fine.  My 4 year old daughter has it but is drug induced by sotalol to treat her SVT.  She has no problems at the moment.   So I gather if I do have it it is not inherited.  I do take Crestor for high cholesterol and mersyndol for chronic shoulder and back pain.  My cardiologist is not really concerned about my medications.  I was very anxious and scared when I had those ECGS because I thought I was having a heart attack.   I will soon find out if I have LQTS when I see the specialist.  The waiting is the hardest.  My greatest fear is dropping dead and my kids cant help me and it would be such a tradegy for them.

The fact that you have 2 EKG that show Long Q-T and another 8 that do not show it, doesn't mean you have it. There are several things that can cause L Q-T including chemical imbalances in the body and drugs. See the EP doctor and let him evaluate you. Long Q-T tends to run in families; does anyone else in your family have this problem? Don't quote me on this but I think that a family history is one of the criteria for this diagnosis.
