chest pain

For the last few months I have been having pains in my chest. They start in the center of my breat bone and radiate out to my ribs. The pain sometimes will radiate to my right shoulder and up in to the right side of my neck. I have been scared to go the doctor with this and most everyone I have talked to said that it sounds like gas. When the pain starts, I have to take shallow breaths because if I try to breath deep and slow, it makes the pain worse. Is this something bad or simple?

I am so glad you apologized to joanincarolina, she is a blessing to this forum. She has given me very good advise, and new directions to look into. The best thing, IS, she tells you to see a doctor, I am sure she has saved lives by telling us that, & she wouldn't be as believable if she didn't. I admire her dedication to this site, I don't know many who would give that much of her time.

Now you will know. Yes, I am direct and to the point especially when it comes to women and their complaints relating to the heart.I focus my attention on women in this forum when their medical complaints are real and symptomatically aligned with a possible larger problem.I am a retired RN with training in cardiac care and I 've had the personal experience of being on the other side of cardiovascular care and being the patient and told nothing was wrong. I will always encourage someone to seek medical attention when there is doubt, risk and passage of time. My response to Jaime after she has had concerns for 4 months stands. And yes, I ask questions and yes some of the most direct answers have been the eye-openers for me.Enjoying a sunny day in South Carolina. Joan.

Go to the doctor.Stop asking general people about this, you are the one feeling this thing of "pains in my chest". It may be as simple as "gas" or it maybe something like chest wall inflammation. Make an appointment with your family doctor, or go to an urgent care. Worry over past months is not worth the risk of getting help.Joan.
