Post surgery a fib with RVR

50 yr old female that had a complete hysterectomy with bladder suspension all done robotically. In recovery pulse went to 180. Have been anemic for years worsening before surgery. After surgery found my magnesium was slightly low as well. Received I've cardiazem, Amiodarone and magnesium and converted to normal sinus rhythm. I have never had chest pain, palpataions or shortness of breath other than induced by cardio.  Echo in hosp said my right atrium was slightly enlarged and left ventricle slightly enlarged. When I had dr visit 3 weeks later he said who ever read echo said I was in severe PH. He redid it because he did not believe it. No enlargement on this echo and mild PH. Had lung function test. Passed with flying colors, going to see pulmonologist, cardiologist said he does not want to be overlooking anything. Had a bubble study, all was well. Co2 in blood perfect. Still no symptoms. He started me on Amiodarone and metoprolol but lowered the dose at 3 week check up because bp and pulse going on low side. I kept track over 3 weeks. Always higher in dr office. . Extremely nervous before surgery and on visit. He said it could have been a fluke post anesthesia/ idiopathic. Ordered a sleep study to check for sleep apnea.

Hi, the commonest cause for A fib is hypertension. Episodes of atrial fibrillation can come and go, or you may have chronic atrial fibrillation. In some people, a specific event or an underlying condition, such as a thyroid disorder, may trigger atrial fibrillation. If the condition that triggered your atrial fibrillation can be treated, you might not have any more heart rhythm problems. So, monitor and follow up with your doctor.  Good luck.
