Home BP Monitor

Can anyone recommend a good quality home arm cuff blood pressure monitor.  Cost is not an issue, I want something that is well calibrated and gives true readings.  Thanks much.

Thanks for the great info!  I actually was looking last night at the Rite Aide web site but I also have a CVS close by too.  I worked for a cardiologist and will check out the oximeter for you.  I am changing hospitals and specialists and have to go there today for processing, I will get back with you sometime later today or early evening.  Thanks again for your help.

I got mine at CVS drugstore.  They have a wide selection at different prices; I got one for $69 but most are cheaper.  I also got a pedometer there for $39, one of their most expensive, but it comes with software that downloads the data into my computer.  A good thing about CVS is that you can see the doo-dads on their website and read the specs and have a pretty good idea what you want when you go--or, in my case, send someone, since I bought it as soon as I was home from the hospital.  If you have a few days to wait, I'm sure you can order these online at the CVS site.

The really expensive toy, I find, is the oximeter.  It is not at the drugstores--I would really, really like someone to tell me where it can be bought!  (I had a tiny, "cheap" one that cost $65, on sale, but I lost it at the fairgrounds.)  I relied on it when I was most short of breath to let me know if my O2 saturation was normal, which it always was (at least in the OK range).  Knowing I was getting plenty of oxygen when I felt like I was getting none saved me one or two trips to the ER!

Yes today is a good day as well, maybe the Enbrel is finally kicking in.   So sorry you are in so much pain, what mg of steroids are you on.  My doc always upped mine when I got really bad, God I hate those things.   I have a lap top too and don't know what I would do without it.  Was rainy here all morning and the sun just came out so I am going to wake the snoring beagle and go for a walk down to the beach.  Think I told you I am off all week, start my new job next Monday.  Using this time to get my S____ together!    Wrote up a healthy eating and exercise plan that I will stick to, just to be able to stand up from the couch without grunting is a miracle.  I pray that it is the Enbrel finally starting to work. Ada I apologize for not knowing this, but what have you been dx with.  Your symptoms sound exactly like mine when I was first dx 4 years ago.  Are your toes swollen too???  Going to go for that walk now but will check in when I get back.  Thanks for writing and for your friendship.

Big Hugs,

Sue

Hehehe, I'm really not following you!!!!  I am so happy to hear you had a pain free day!!!  Is today pain free as well?  Don't you just love those pain free days?  I just love that feeling, of feeling well and healthy.  I am just so happy for you.  I wish I was there to give you a big hug!!!!  Those days are glorious..... :)

I would definately get a BP cuff, I love this one.  I have gotten into the habit of taking my own vitals, temp, bp, pulse.  I still moniter my temp everyday to see if there is ever gonna be a change in them.  Its definately a good idea to have one, I like the cuff one better than the others.

Today, I can really feel it.  I have gone into my fourth week of steroids and still feel like it's either not enough or it isn't doing anything.  Its rainy and cold outside and I don't care what some say, the rain does bother my joints.

I don't get it, I am still so swollen up, especially in my ankles, knees and wrists and in my ankles when I am walking, they are throbbing and burning, it feels like I sprained both of them.  And my wrists, the MCP joints feel like they are fusing together, I can't move them up or down.  It's crazy painful.  I just thought the steroids would help get this under control.

I'm just glad I have a laptop :)  I would go insane if it wasn't for this forum, thats for sure.  I am so grateful for it.

Many, Many Cyber Hugs to You,

Ada

Damn Ada, you are everywhere!!!!  LOl, how are you and thanks so much for the info. I was just looking on line and the prices vary so greatly.  Accuracy is more important to me than anything and I was told by some Dr's to go with the arm cuff not the finger or wrist ones.  I never had high BP but with this new job and my health issues it is starting to creep up a little.  I was just telling someone else that this was my 9th injection and Sunday was the first day in four years I woke up without any pain at all!  A miracle!!!!   Still need to post my welcome post, hope to get to that today.  How are you doing??

I purchased one at Wal-Mart, the name brand was Reli-On.  I got the one where it will store the BP readings so I could refer back to them.  I believe it to be an accurate reading, the numbers weren't much different than the Dr's manual one.  It didn't cost that much, I think it was around $60.00.
