Scared for Catheter Ablation surgery next week for my SVT.

I am a 22 year old female with no history of poor health. Other than being anemic (which seems to be a trigger) I'm a relatively healthy person. I had one isolated SVT attack when I was in grade 9. 14/15yrs old. Then a sudden onset when I was 19/20. Have been taking 2.5mg bisoprolol daily for roughly 2 years. I am finally scheduled to get an ablation done next week on November 16th and am quite scared. I have a fear of needles so the part that really bothers me is not the idea of the operation itself, but the IV and numbing in the groin area. Haha. I know that my cardiologist has excellent experience and has been practicing medicine longer than I've been alive. Im just a wuss.

Tom_h is a wonderful long time poster thats actually had one of these done. Use him! Hes a wonderful chap to ask about the patients perspective. Hes also clearly done alot of research on the topic.

I am also here if you have any specific technical questions. E.g. how long they take, tools used, complications and how we manage them etc. Ive worked a good number of these, they are the third most common case we see in the ep lab, behind pacemakers and flutter. Meaning theyre considered pretty routine.

I even have materials from classes ive taught on it, if you wanna get really in depth.

We also have at least 1 poster that pops up occasionally that im fairly certain is a doctor.

You got a good community here so fire away.

Do you have any questions about the procedure that I might be able to answer for you?

Congratulations on undergoing your procedure.  I hope it was successful and you can get on with a life free of SVT.

Thank you both for your replies but as luck would have it my phone decided it no longer wanted to work and was not able to access Med help until recently. Although I was nervous and a little bit uncomfortable during my procedure my nurses and the doctor that I had made the whole thing fairly quick. I have a follow up in 2 weeks with a local physician to check the catheter site and another follow up in 3 months back at the Heart Institute that I visited.
