sinus tacycardia

Hi
I admit i'm a nervous person but even when perfectly calm i would sometimes experience palpitations. In the last couple of weeks its been happening continually, been feeling dizzy and my hands are getting crampy . I've had  numerous blood tests and chest x rays which have all come back normal and my doc has ruled out heart failure. She did mention sinus tachycardia though and is sending me to a specialist. I'm only 18 so wondering if this is really dangerous.

Hi speckle99,

Welcome to the Heart Forum!

Sinus tachycardia is the medical term for a fast heart rate.  The specialist may have you wear a special type of monitor that will capture your heart rate over a 24 hour period.  The monitors are really helpful for determining what our hearts are doing while we go about a normal day.

Great news on the blood tests and chest xrays!!  You are very young to have heart failure, but there are some types of arrythmias (not necessarily serious, just bothersome) that can cause palpitations, lightheadness, anxiety, etc.  You will probably feel a whole lot better once you have met with a specialist.  Take care and keep us posted.
